Time to go home

added 8 days ago O Toddler

Jeff enjoyed the swing immensely, the sense of speed and excitement gave him a pleasant tickle in his whole body. He laughed and yelled "More!" to make Mommy push him faster. But after a while, she stopped, and the swing slowed down until Jeff's mom stopped it and picked him up. "No." he complained and tried to hold on to the top bar of the toddler swing, but it was already out of reach.
"Come on, let's go home, it's getting late." His mommy said and set him down. Jeff didn't think it was late at all. He immediately ran over to the swing. "More!" he demanded.
"No, we gotta go home. Daddy should be there by now, and then we'll eat dinner." Jeff thought for a moment. He wanted to see the young version of his father, but the swing was more alluring - he stayed where he was and held his arms out towards it.
"Do you want to go in the stroller or walk?" His mommy asked. Jeff didn't reply.
"You can have a cookie on the way." Mommy offered. That sounded like a deal to Jeff. He turned around to face her and said "Cookie."
"You get a cookie when we're out of the playground. Come on, do you wanna walk yourself or go in the stroller?" she asked again.
"Walk." Jeff said.
His mom took his hand, and they left the playground, his mom pushing the stroller with the other arm. Outside the playground she handed Jeff a cookie, which he devoured just as fast as the previous one - and it tasted just as great.
Walking down the street as fast as he could with his little legs, holding his mom's hand Jeff looked at the pavement under his feet, at the trees far above him and the colourful leaves on the ground. He stopped for a moment to pick up a little twig. It felt big and heavy as he held and swung it in his tiny hand. Jeff followed an impulse to throw it away and watched it land nearby.
He realized the distance between the playground and his house felt a lot longer on his own little legs then in the stroller. He looked at the house next to him and realized they were just halfway there, but he didn't feel like walking any more. So he crouched down, pulling on his mom's hand and looked up at her.
"Are you tired of walking? Do you want to go in the stroller, Jeff?" she asked. Jeff nodded his head and said "'roller." "Then get in." his mom said.
Jeff climbed into his stroller and she buckled him in. "Looks like we got rid of some of that energy, hm?" she said and pushed him the rest of the way home in about two minutes. Jeff sucked his thumb. He shifted around in his seat a bit as he felt a pressure in his butt, making him push a little poop into his diaper. He wondered if his father would be home already.
