‘Where are you off to Jeffrey?’ asked his father as Jeff went to depart the kitchen.
‘I just remembered I need to do something on my computer’
‘Well it can wait. This is a special moment for me and Jennifer. Our first breakfast together as a family’
‘But what about Becky? Isn’t she going to be part of our family now?’ chirped in the now 13 year old Irene, who used to be Jeff’s mother or was she still? It was very confusing to Jeff.
‘You’re right of course Irene. Becky will be part of our family. She will be your sister’
‘Step sister’ Jeff couldn’t help himself
‘Who you will treat as if she was your own Sister’ Jeff’s father qualified.
In a way Jeff was curious to see who this ‘Becky’ was. Had the Chronivac just somehow conjured up a real human to become Jenny’s fictitious daughter? However breaking up the relationship between Jenny and his father was more important. ‘I’ll only be a few minutes Dad. I’ll be back by the time breakfast is ready’
‘It’s ready now’ said Jenny who had been doing the cooking. ‘I’d just like some help to plate up’
‘I’ll help!’ said Irene enthusiastically
‘Why thanks Irene. Find me some plates if you could. And Jeffrey would you mind collecting some parsley from the herb garden’
Jeff felt he had no choice but to do as Jenny asked. It seemed like he was going to have to put up with his suddenly matured girlfriend and his father being all lovey-dovey over breakfast. At least he had a bit of time to think about what changes he should make.
As he walked out to the herb garden he considered how to change Jenny’s profile. He didn’t yet want to change her age back to 15, he wanted to see what having sex was like and thought he had a much better chance with the divorcee Jenny Ashmore rather than with the virginal Jenny O’Brian. Perhaps he could just make her younger – put an age gap between his father and Jenny. If he made her 25, that would put her closer in age to Jeff than his father. He also probably needed to revert his mother to her correct age. That had also been a change that had backfired. If he had wanted to punish his mother for treating him as a kid he probably should have made her aware of the changes. Certainly, neither Jenny nor Irene seemed aware of the changes he had made last night. He must have somehow altered the awareness setting or was it only people who saw the changes on the screen who were aware? Jeff probably needed to read the instructions more carefully.
He returned with the parsley to find the breakfast, essentially a rather fancy bacon and eggs all dished up. And his meal waiting for him. He sat through breakfast listening to Jenny and his father articulating their plans for the day. He had to bite his tongue to refrain from telling them “Don’t’ plan too far ahead” but managed to do so. Evidently after a shower they were going to pick up “Becky” who was evidently having a sleep over somewhere, tell her the news, then bring her home, to her new house. Then they began planning a gathering at the house tonight, where they would announce the engagement to their friends.
His father asked if Jeffrey could help by beginning to move what was currently in the office to the outside shed. So they could begin to clean up the room for Becky.
‘Sure’ Jeff replied, confident that he wouldn’t actually need to do anything once the changes he had in mind were implemented.
