Something that only happens once every four years, Leap Day is often considered a day for unusual events. However, compared to Animalia, Leap Day was actually more normal, and what was starting up around this time was proof of that.

With the end of February, many bird Animalians were heading home from 'winter Migration', especially since winter was seemingly ending early. One person who was having mixed feelings about this was Henry. While he was happy to be home again, he was a little reluctant due to what he had learned over the winter. Apparently, another veteran with PTSD had become another Bald Eagle Animalian, and had fallen in with Ela Shah's group of 'foxy boxers'. While he wasn't turning down her invitation to her inaugural match, he was more concerned about having another member for his 'harem', as some of his old buddies from the army days called Antonia and Beatrice, though he himself refused to use that term.

Another thing that was starting up was the Spring Mating Season (or simply the Spring Season for 'younger members' of society). Fortunately, there was plenty of birth control and/or heat suppressants so this didn't disrupt things too much.

The biggest thing that happened around this time was the Race Up Zodiac Mountain, the final event for the Year of the Dragon Zodiac Competition. The scores were pretty tight overall, so this event would be the tiebreaker to decide the Mister and Miss Zodiac winners. While there were different routes for the land, sea, and sky "dragons", the overall theme was still the same: while racing to the top, each competitor had to activate a number of targets tied to the animals of the Lunar Zodiac in the correct order. In some cases, the targets were tricky to get to. As an example, the "steeper" Water Dragon course (which involved climbing/swimming up a series of waterfalls/climbing walls) had the Dragon Target in the middle of one of the waterfalls. Competition was going to be fierce, and everyone was rooting for their favorite dragon/Dinotopians.
