There was no way Jasper could let that guy grab the amulet and potentially trap him as a moue. He mustered his princely courage to overcome how scared as he felt. Animal instincts were screaming for him to run and hide as he bolted from the security of the wall. He pressed forward. The distance of only a few feet felt like a mile on his short legs.
The rebel was focusing on the suspicious jewelry resting on the floor and did not notice the tiny rodent desperately sprinting toward him. He leaned down and slowly reached for the gold chain. In that moment Jasper leapt onto the locket with a hop and desperately clutched onto it. He felt his body being lifted along with the jewelry and was suddenly face to face with the confused looking rebel.
"Well what do we have here?" He seemed intrigued by the little mouse that had just grabbed onto the subject of his investigation. Surely he would put this simple mystery together soon. A giant hand was swiftly moving to grasp Jasper who silently cursed the useless locket for putting him in an even worse position. But it was his only hope now. Jasper closed his eyes and let out a squeak of "Protect me!" just before the fingers closed around him.
