"Jenny must be brought to Wind's Grove," Clover said, stomping her hoof for emphasis. "And this must be done as soon as possible. We cannot delay bringing the pregnant heir to safety."
"I agree," Dmitri said.
"I will remain here, at the school. Dmitri, take Jenny to meet the Royalists partway and help them escort her."
"What of you?" Jenny whinnied. Clover tossed her head.
"I will be fine here. Dmitri's wife Ellany can keep an eye on me."
"But you were to get help from cursebreakers in Wind's Grove," Dmitri said.
"It may break on its own once I give birth. If not, I will wait for you to return, brother." There was a steely glint in Clover's eye that both Dmitri and Jenny recognized. She was determined to do this and could not be swayed.
"Very well," Dmitri said unhappily. He sighed. "I will go speak with Ellany." Dmitri left. Clover looked at Jenny.
"In the meantime, let us enjoy our time together," Clover said. Jenny nodded.
The two mares stayed by each other constantly while they waited for the royalists to approach the rendezvous point. Clover even ran alongside Jenny when Dmitri rode her. Every day, Clover got larger and slower, her pregnancy progressing at an incredibly rapid pace.
Finally, the day came. Ellany and Clover bid Dmitri and Jenny goodbye. Clover wished she could go with them. But her time was getting close; she could feel the foal kicking. Gelvin was due to arrive in a few days. Unless Clover gave birth before then, he would be tending to the birth of his own child.
