Once the two werewolves were out in the driveway, Diana felt her cell phone buzzing. It was Selena's number. Diana answered. "Hey, Selena! What's up?"
"I wanted to know how the recruitment drive's going," Selena said. "After all, it impacts my pack, too."
"Fair enough," Diana agreed.
"Is Luna behaving herself?" Selena asked cautiously.
"Surprisingly, yes," Diana answered. "She seems different now. Still cocky and vain as anything, but she's not the mean-spirited bully she used to be."
"I guess I really got through to her last night when I helped her regrow her body hair after that stupid lasering," Selena marveled. "It's good to know I have two sisters I can trust. So, who'd you get. Hopefully nobody I'm considering for the werehyenas."
"You mean like Brittany and Amber Mitchell-Erickson, Marley Roberts, or Destiny Robbins?" Diana asked.
"Basically," Selena answered, "but it isn't me who wants Destiny Robbins. I referred Destiny to the werefox skulk that Renata Hamilton's founding. You know, the one that uses Morgana's Inhibitor Potion to tone down the mischief? I figured that suits the gossipy snoop's temperament better."
"I see," Diana said. "Well, I'm not recruiting any of those people. For starters, we got two guys from the Vodka Voodoo Bar & Grill."
"Good pick," Selena said approvingly. "Males have no place in a werehyena pack."
"Then we got a phone call from Mom asking for females," Diana went on. "You know, 'cause our males need straight and/or bi mates. Luna had the brilliant idea of finding all members of her college sorority who haven't left the state for spring break. They're straight and I doubt you had them on your radar."
"Sounds ideal," Selena said.
"Fair warning, I think one of them's gonna be a fucking problem," Diana warned. "Her name's Lauren Frost. She's rich as fuck and she's got even more bad attitude than she has money. She's racist, she's homophobic, she's elitist, and she's an even bigger bully than Luna used to be in the bad old days. She's also been broadcasting pretty loudly that she has alpha ambitions. Long story short, she's just Mom's type."
"Yikes," Selena winced.
"The others don't seem so bad, though," Diana went on. "Erika's a bit of a hothead and Brooke's an off-the-rails party girl, but that's it aside from Lauren the Bitch Queen. Just so you know, Luna told them about you and the werehyenas. She figured that she could used some allies while she's protecting you."
"Lauren sounds like a pretty crap ally," Selena said warily.
"I know, but what can you do?" Diana mused. "Besides, part of me thinks Erika will tear Lauren's throat out if she tries anything shitty. They seem to hate each other."
"Okay," Selena said. "Hope it works out, Di."
"Seconded," Diana sighed. "If it helps, Lauren still doesn't know about you dating Tatiana von Karnstein."
"Good," Selena said emphatically. "I don't know what I'd do if Lauren did anything to hurt Tats. Well, bye."
"Bye, Lena," Diana said before hanging up.
"Is Selena good with everything?" Luna asked.
"More or less," Diana answered. "I'm not sure if shi would've trusted the Lambda Alpha Omega girls so early, though."
"Yeah, that might've been a fuck-up on my part," Luna sighed. "Well, I should call Mom now. She'll want to know about Lambda Alpha Omega. Bet you anything she'll adore Lauren and Erika."
"And hate Lexie," Diana laughed bitterly.
Luna joined in the humorless chuckling as she dialed Artemis Lyall's number.
