In the quaint town of Middletown, the Wildcats were known more for their spirit than their scoreboard. But that was before Peter, a lanky 17-year-old with more enthusiasm than muscle, joined the team. His girlfriend, Joce, always in the stands with her quirky friend Tyler, watched Peter get sacked again and again.
Joce hated seeing her boyfriend getting sacked on the football field. She had such a crush on Peter, the sweet, tall, humble guy who took on the unforgiving job as the school’s football quarterback just because the previous guy got injured during the last game. She was just dreadfully afraid of Peter ending up as the next name on the injured list.
One day, Tyler, who fancied himself a wizard with his magical, transformational powers, decided to cast a spell.
"For love and football," he chanted, waving his hand over Joce's head. Suddenly, she felt a tingle in her fingers.
"What did you do?" she gasped.
"Just a little body morphing charm," Tyler grinned. "Think of Peter, and poof! He'll be the Hulk of high school football! When he grows, all the other guys on the team will grow as well!"
Game day against the Tigers arrived, and the Wildcats were trailing by a mere field goal. Derrick, the Tigers' quarterback, had been a thorn in Peter's side all week with his online taunts. As the Tigers charged towards the Wildcats' end zone, Joce clenched her fists, thinking of Peter's potential. It was third down and the ball was on the Wildcats’ 20-yard-line and the Tigers were looking to add to their lead.
In an instant, the Wildcats transformed. Muscles bulged, jerseys stretched, and the crowd gasped as the once underdogs towered over the field. Every player who was on Peter’s team felt it. Their muscles doubled in size and every single one of the boys grew at least six inches taller. They felt much stronger now! They felt unstoppable! Let the Tigers come their way! They could stop them! Every player on the team knew that they could stop the Tigers.
Derrick's confident throw turned into a spectacle as Kent, now a Wildcat giant, leaped, intercepting the ball with a roar. Kent had always been the smallest, most timid, most shy boy on the team and he was about to become the greatest hero of the whole game!
The stadium erupted as Kent, the Wildcat, now a Goliath, charged down the field, shrugging off Tigers defenders like they were pesky flies. One Tiger after the other tried to stop Kent and tackle him but Kent was so super charged and pumped up with muscle, that nothing could bring him down. The boy just steamrolled all the way into the endzone, leaving four Tigers on the ground behind him. Touchdown Wildcats!
During the Wildcats’ next possession, Peter, now a titan among teens, threw pass after pass, each one a thunderbolt that led to victory. Every one of his receivers managed to make the catch and run into the endzone with the ball and there was nothing any of the defensive players on the Tigers’ team could do! When the game finally ended, the Wildcats were not just winners; they were legends.
Joce beamed, her magical secret safe, as Peter hoisted her into the air.
"How did you do it?" he laughed, unaware of the true source of his newfound strength.
"Let's just say that you, and the rest of the guys on the team, had a little growth spurt," Joce winked, while Tyler, in the shadows, smiled widely. The Wildcats had won, and Middletown high school football would never be the same again.
