Jeremy coulden't stand it, the image in the mirror was a lie, it had to be a lie! Jeremy knew he had a future. This was supposed to be a fun trip. He had his entire future ahead of him ... not this!
"Calm down man, you're gonna get us caught!"
Jeremy looked at the young woman before him. It wasen't fair, she was still human. So what if she got turned into a girl; at least she doesn't have to be a stinking donkey!
Braying, Jeremy felt a primitive panic fuel inside of him.Oh God, what have I done?"
He remembered what his teachers had said to him and his classmates as they were selecting their upcoming high school classes. Always keep as many doors open as possible. In three or four years, you may not be interested in what you're interested in now. Always leave room open for other career paths. All of the potential choices had almost overwhelmed him. To be honest, Jeremy had no idea what he wanted to do when he grew up. Now, it seemed he had no choice. Others would decide his fate for him.
No, no, no. I don't want to be a donkey. I have to get out of here. I'm not supposed to be a donkey. I'm a boy, not a donkey!. Jeremy's fear exploded. He started to buck as he brayed loudly. Before he knew it, he'd smashed the mirror in the room. As its shards fell to the ground, he imagined his shattered image in them. He coulden't help but feel the irony. His life was shattered, his existence destroyed. All this because of one mistake.
"Calm down dude; you're gonna get hurt or give us away!"Trevor said.
Her words unfortunately, only fueled Jeremy's panic. He was a donkey now. Any minute they were going to come and take him away. Jeremy felt a compulsion to get out of there. His fear told him that he coulden't stand around waiting for them to come and get him! It isn't fair, why did Trevor get to stay human? I'd rather be a girl then a donkey!
Jeremy ran at the door and kicked it open with his forelegs. He coulden't stop braying and his heart raced.
I have to get out of here, I have to escape.
Jeremy ran through the beach, kicking sand all over the place, which hampered his movement. He coulden't stop thinking about what his parents would think about him in this form or what they would say.
For a short, fleeting few seconds, Jeremy found himself thinking along other lines. Sure, he was a donkey and others would select his future. However, that meant he didn't have to worry about what he was going to do with his life. As well, no one would expect a donkey to attend class, do homework or take tests. Those thoughts if anything, calmed Jeremy. He stopped running and stood there under the warm sun.
"I saw another one run this way," a voice said.
"Stupid kids, they think they can have a life where they play and have fun all day while everyone else does all of the chores. They make a mess and we always have to clean it up," another voice replied.
Jeremy's ears twitch as he listened in on the conversation.
"I know. It's ironic they become donkeys. Once we catch him, he'll be the one doing the work," the first voice sad.
Jeremy started feeling afraid again. He knew there was a reason they were turning him and the others into donkeys! If he didn't find a way to change back or at least get off of the island, he was about to become a true beast of burden!
Maybe I deserve this. What was I thinking? Free drinks and everything with no one to answer to? I really am a donkey ... a stupid donkey!
Jeremy shook his head. He knew that he coulden't fall into despair, not now!
I have to get back, find those two and my friends!
