An in game cut scene showed Andrew's character push the Alpha corpse off himself, stand up, and raise his arms in a cheering motion. "Victory" was displayed in glittering letters followed by, "Title unlocked: Pick your boon!" A short list of titles came up and Andrew was able to scroll over them and see the benefits they conveyed.
Oh cool! A shooter with RPG elements!
Stealthy: 30% less likely to be found after not firing your weapon for 5 seconds.
Durable: 30% more life
Speedy: 30% faster walk speed in open areas; 10% faster reload.
Strong: 10% more strength (used to gain access to secret area)
Charmer: Receive a warning before NPCs are instigated; 30% romance
Rugged: 5% Stealthy, 5% more life, 5% walk speed boost, 5% more strength, and 5% Romance
At first glance all the options looked good except for the Rugged option, which only offered 5% bonuses instead of 30% but he noticed Strength is only a 10% boost, so all together, the small boost is adding more skill than the larger single boosts, though he would need to change strategy to get reload speed or NPC agro warnings...
Andrew selected Rugged and to his shock the game zoomed in on his character and his clean shaven face suddenly had stubble. Another cut scene happened where the Alpha transformed back into a human, a young man roughly late 20s, and your character lifted his leg and did a tumble roll over the body to pick him up. The next scene was you dropping the body outside a bar and entering, the patrons all eyed you and the female bartender exclaimed "Well aint you a rugged man! What can I get for you?"
"Information, this man attacked me, I won. what do you know about him?"
Cut scene showing all the patrons staring at your kill.
"That's Dean McDermont, he and his no good hooligan friends hang out at the old McDermont place on the hill." Screen pans, ominous howl. "I wouldn't go there unless you're looking for trouble." close up of your character's face smirking.
The cut scene ends and Andrew is back in control, the trackball lets his character run around and he is able to restore health by eating and behind one of the buildings is a locked cellar, clearly one of the hidden areas. Back to full health, Andrew runs the character toward the house and "Level 5" appeared on the screen. The standard auto scroll, pop out game continued following the road through the woods. Level 6 was the same but following a winding dirt road instead of the standard paved road. The house always loomed in the background.
The premise of the game amused Andrew since he'd gone through several hundred werewolves just to get this far which had to constitute at least several packs... Approaching the house another cut scene began.
Your character stepped out of the dirt road toward the house. From within "I smell Dean's blood!" A young man, possibly just out of high school rushed out the door, "Dean! You okay... Who'r you? Guys!?" Four more young men appear. An instant later they all transform into not as hulking as the alpha was, but bigger than normal werewolves. The cutscene ends, "Boss Fight" flashed on the screen, and as quickly as Andrew regains control all 5 of them have scattered. Snarling came from all sides but as soon as he turned to it, the creatures leapt out of sight. The characters had their catch phrases:
"You'll PAY for what you've done."
"Big mistake coming here, Jackass."
"What have you done to my brother?"
After several minutes of constantly playing chicken with these guys Andrew realized what he needs to do. The wolves will attack from behind after snarling. If he looks toward them they will leap away but if he dodges at the last minute he can get a shot off and take them down.
One by one the strategy worked, he had counted the seconds. Snarl, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, dodge, fire, move in case there's a second attack from someone else... He had taken several hits figuring out the timing and that they are attacking independently. He's now down to the final boss. Another cut scene shows the teenage looking one coming out from the fog, approaching you in human form. "What have you done to my brother?" He asks again...
"Who is your brother?" Your character's gun falls to their side, understandably empathizing with the kid caring about his brother.
"Dean, Dean McDermont" the boy pleaded "You smell of his blood." his voice was choked as he said this...
"That's because he attacked me, I defended myself and I won." your character said.
Still in the cut scene the kid roared in emotional anguish, transformed, leapt at you and you raised your gun and fired, executing him in the air, like you did to his brother.
"Oof, harsh, but rude of them making me feel for the murdering monster... Wonder what I get for this boss?"
