Consciousness returning Antoine realized that something was with him in bed thanks to a weird "fuzzy" feeling. In fact whatever was next to him was glowing green as he could see through his eyelids. He opened them up to see what looked like some cute girl made of a blueish energy. Naked in a sense that she had no clothes on, although it's not like she was anatomically correct. Looking outside the broken window it was currently night, but Antoine wasn't feeling tired. Antoine tried figuring out how to get up without waking his intruder when he noticed that her form was slightly clipping into his... Energy beings for you he supposed. He got up, stretched, and then wondered if anyone was around when a female sounding voice asked "So you good? Not feeling any mana drain?"
Antoine turned to see the energy being sitting up without having made a sound and said "Uh... Well I feel normal. How'd you get into my room?"
"Oh you know, window holes, floor holes, under the door, and T'Kiln letting me in. They call me Sparkle."
"I'm Antoine" Antoine said not exactly sure how to deal with this situation. He decided at least he could maybe take a walk, assuming the Crossroad's Ceep wasn't closed and locked up. Downstairs in the main lobby Antoine saw a figure at a single table that he presumed was under his room doing some sorta paperwork under Sparkle light... He seemed to be seeing better now that Sparkle was next to him providing her ethereal light directly instead of from floor/ceiling holes.
"Feeling better?" T'Kiln's voice came from the figure in the dark
"Yes... Why did you let Sparkle in my room?" Antoine asked
"Cause you just emptied your mana supply, and if you didn't quite catch it Sparkle's kind of living mana. Her existence here is a secret. Not the biggest secret, but you aren't to go spreading it around willy nilly."
"Is it that dangerous for me to just not have mana?"
"You collapsed from one spell kid... [cleanse] now that's a lucky spell skill to get." T'Kiln gestured for Antoine to sit down. "So you got a level from getting the job, and you get a spell? Or did you know the spell already and just reject a mage class for some reason?"
Antoine walked to the table and said "Actually I got 7 lev-" Where Antoine was rewarded with T'Kiln giving him a smack in the back of the head "-OW!"
"Don't be smart kid, more than 1 level? I guess I'm hard to impress" Antoine got the feeling either T'Kiln thought he was joking or wished he was joking. "Still, that new magic skill of yours could give you a leveling opportunity."
"By being a Janitor?"
Sparkle said "Kind of... I am essentially a giant magic battery and I've got some skills that can help me charge up other people."
T'Kiln nodded "You're lucky she's willing to help if you want to go a magic route. Otherwise you can polish up your people's skills and go for a more skilled, but mundane route... Well think on it if you want, but do you happen to feel well rested?" Antoine nodded so T'Kiln said "Alright, go into the basement with Sparkle and [cleanse]... everything."
The process was... simple... Antoine was glad he had [Minor Disease Resistance] with the smell of the place, but the smell left quickly as [cleanse] into being doped with Sparkle's [Enhanced infuse mana] skill let him constantly pump out more and more [cleanses]. At the end all that was in Antoine's system was more than my maximum amount of mana and Adrenaline. Turns out constantly filling and emptying your mana reserves was a way to increase your reserve limit, but could be dangerous... and he think he overstressed his body way too much.
There was a loud sniff "Well, I can't smell any bodily secretions and I'm a Gnoll." T'Kiln said. Apparently dog people were Gnolls, who'd guessed?
"Can I go back to bed?"
"No, [Get back to work!]" and Antoine felt a bit of a pep in his step return as T'Kiln said "Just make the beds, and make things look kinda presentable. Big day tomorrow." Antoine did it, and felt like his was limping out of the inn as dawn was breaking. T'Kiln was unlocking the front door while some ladies were coming in from the back. Lizardwoman, Gnoll... Succubus? Sparkle was hovering around, a human but she was a bit older- "[One more thing]" T'Kiln ordered "Hey ladies we got a [Cleanse] on demand now. Want a free one?" The ladies looked VERY interested and were crowding around Antoine.
"Hey wait a sec! Sparkle! HELP!" Antoine felt like he was getting mugged for his mana, but after [cleansing] the whores he was able to get back to bed and relax...
