“I can’t lie to you, Mary,” Buster said, his voice sounding different than it did before, but Mary couldn’t tell if that was her newly sensitive canine ears or something else.
“I’ve… always wished we could be the same. And now… I can… I can feel this new form fading,” he trailed off, glancing away for just a second. Mary could see a light coating of fuzz on his skin, the beginnings of his reversion. “Soon, I’ll be myself again. And it may be selfish, but… I don’t want you to go back to being my human.”
Mary tilted her head to the left, not sure of what he was saying to her. He didn’t her to be his anymore? Was that what he was saying?
“I know, it’s hard to understand human talk,” he chuckled. The fuzz grew thicker as his head began to stretch and narrow, becoming more like his old self - more like the way she was in this moment.
“I promised you I’d always love you, and I meant that. I would just prefer to love you as my mate,” Mary’s tail wagged at that, and she noticed that the beginnings of Buster’s tail was poking out above his backside.
She eagerly licked his face. It was one thing to do what they did last night, as humans, but to mate with him, dog to dog, that… she actually wanted that. Very badly.
“We’ll figurrrrre out the futurrrrre laterrrrr,” Buster’s voice sounded more and more like a growl, his teeth sharper.
He was becoming his old self again, and fast. And Mary couldn’t wait. She was a dog now, she supposed, and after all he had given her in their times together, the least she could do was grant his wish.
