"I'm home!" Sean said as he closed the front door to the house.
"Sup, dude!" he heard the chorus of voices respond in the other room. Sounds like Jack's personality was in charge today.
Sean put his stuff down in the entryway and made his way to the living room, where the three-headed being sat. Within a few days of the Fusion Wave, the new fusion had come up with a new name to call themselves, combining the names of each of their heads. Sean's dad Lee, his mom Isabel, and then Jack, taking different parts of each. They settled on Jill as their new name.
Jill was sitting on the sofa in the living room, dressed in half of a woman's business suit. The collared shirt was unbuttoned down to their breasts, the suit jacket was open, and the suit pants had been switched out for sweatpants. Their feet were propped up on an ottoman in front of the couch, with their body reclined while watching TV. They had the TV remote in their top right hand, while the two left hands were working on a laptop resting on one of the couch cushions to the side.
"So, how was school?" The three heads asked in unison to their son/best friend, Jack's head staring at the computer, Isabel's head watching TV and Lee's head looked at Sean.
"Fine. They're still not fully running back to pre-wave. They did say they'll probably have 2 or 3 weeks of refresh before exams start, for those of us still able to take them at least." Sean said as he sighed, plopping down on the couch to the right of Jill.
"Think that's enough time for you to finish that final project?" they asked, their body turning halfway to face Sean with all three heads.
"Probably. I had it mostly done before," he gestured to Jill "All this happened. I'd say graduation is pretty much in the bag."
Jill's three heads nodded and smiled, turning back to continue their various tasks.
"So did you have to go into the office today?" Sean asked, pulling out his phone to check social media.
"Yeah, just for half the day." Jill said. "They're still working on getting everyone's jobs situated. The company lost, like, half their employees. Most of them fused with other people, and for one reason or another, they can't come back. I'm just glad they kept me on."
"Well, they wouldn't fire you with a staff shortage. Although technically only a third of you worked there," Sean said through a grin, pointing to Lee's head.
"Yeah, whatever. Ya don't have to be so technical." Jill said, using Jack's right arm to playfully punch Sean's shoulder. They both shared a chuckle, sounding more like a group of friends laughing.
"So, what's the plan tonight? I'm starving!" Sean responded as he got up off the couch to stretch.
"Well, I..." Jill started before a 'ping' sound came out in the room. All three of Jill's heads began looking down as their left arm raised up, showing them their smart watch with a notification. Jill read the watch carefully and began to smile with all her heads as she turned to Sean.
"I was going to say I could whip up some dinner, but now it looks like I won't be around tonight." Jill said, smiling even more now.
"Oh? What have you got going on now?" Sean was curious. Since the fusion, Jill hadn't really been very socially active, but it seems like they had something cooking up their sleeves.
"Well," they started, their top right hand beginning to play with Isabel's hair. "I actually managed to get a date!"
Sean was conflicted hearing that. Since two-thirds of what made up Jill were his loving parents, it was weird comprehending they were now technically single. He was happy for them, but also sad with the realization his parents technically didn't exist as they used to.
Jill could tell from Sean's face exactly what he was thinking. They stood up and put their top left arm around Sean, pulling him into a half hug.
"I know what you're thinking, and trust me, I get it. It's taken me a bit to come to terms with what I am and what I'm not. But I've finally come to a place where I can feel comfortable putting myself out there. At least now that a lot of the world is almost as fucked up as me!" They laughed. Sean joined in, feeling a bit more relieved.
"So, is this date of yours a fusion too? Any chance I know them?" Sean started asking, still being held in that half hug by one of Jill's left arm.
"You'll have to wait and see!" They said, patting Sean's head as they let go of him, starting to head towards the stairs. "They'll be here to pick me up later tonight, so I'm gonna get ready. If you're that hungry, there's some stuff in the freezer you can heat up!"
Jill disappeared up the stairs and into their bedroom as Sean took their advice, heading into the kitchen.
