After you release Elisa, you see her ponder for a bit, then look up at you.
"I trust you, sister...but I'm still worried," Elisa says hesitatingly, not sure if you will be offended.
"I know, and it's good that you don't trust them right away," you smile as you tuck a strand of Elisa's hair behind her ear. "That way you'll be careful and watchful, and you'll learn about the manor much faster. Don't think I don't also have my doubts, but...so far everything seems promising, and at the very least, it will be a chance for us to get some proper rest and food, especially for Garn," you say as your gaze wanders to the door to Garn's bedroom. Elisa still looks uncertain, but nods her head in agreement with you on this point.
Surprisingly, full sets of proper clothing for all three of you has been delivered to the rooms while you were with the marquis, which you discovered while you readied Garn for bed. You are impressed at the efficiency of the marquis' estate, especially given that you had only been there for less than 24 hours. After helping Elisa into her new nightclothes and tucking her in, you finally have a moment to yourself.
Standing before the long mirror in your bedroom, you frown at the stranger staring back at you. And if the marquis was right, there were more changes to come. You mull over the events of the day and wonder what the future will bring. Although it has been a while since you last slept, you do not feel tired, but rather quite alert. Some time later, there is a knock on your door. When you open the door, you find Birea outside.
"Miss, if you are feeling up to it, would you like a tour of the manor house?" Birea asks, and after a moment's contemplation, you agree. You follow Birea through hallways and corridors as she gradually introduces you to the layout of the mansion. However, if it is not this which grabs your attention.
From what Birea had said before, those who were not entirely humanoid can only work in the wing housing the marquis' personal quarters. It did not register earlier, but you suddenly realize that many of the servants you view have inhuman characteristics, which means your rooms are also in the marquis' wing. While you are grateful to the marquis for treating you and your siblings well, there is also a sense of weight from the sheer amount of favor you are receiving.
As you pass, you observe the nonconformities of the servants. Some have small horns, others animal characteristics like ears or tails, and others fur or scales. However, they all are humanoid in form and mostly have characteristics that can easily be hidden within articles of clothing. When you reach the end of the wing, Mrs. Ensar approaches and takes over the tour, as Birea cannot pass completely for a human.
You recall that even those who have changed can work elsewhere in the mansion if they can pass for human, and you wonder whether Mrs. Ensar is changed or human. You see many other servants, but like Mrs. Ensar, while some give off slightly inhuman airs, it cannot be distinguished which ones are human and which are not.
Because it is night, you only tour the interior of the mansion, although you cannot tour the exterior during the daytime anyway. After you return to your rooms and Birea helps you change into nightwear, you lay in bed and try to make sense of what your life has become. Finally you hear movement in the other bedrooms and realize it is morning.
