Before Ty could do any more damage, he noticed that as Dustin slept in the corner, she began to shift as well. As the geeky girl slept, she started to change, taking on many of the poodle characteristics of her mother--frizzy snowy white fur, pink bows on her floppy ears, and a long tail with a white pom pom on the end. She used to be a "dog", but now she was a dog.
It seemed that Ty's power had altered Dustin's genetics and history to make it normal for her to be the daughter of a poodle-woman. In fact, all the photos on the mantle had changed as well. In one, June in a wedding gown became June being led down the aisle on a leash. June laying on the beach in a bikini became doggy-June with her fur trimmed to look like a bikini. Reality itself was being altered.
Ty peeked into the kitchen and many of the food items had been changed. Dog treats sat on the shelf along with breakfast cereals. In his foster parents' bedroom, the queen-sized bed now sat next to a large doggy bed with the name June embroidered on it.
Ty pulled back the curtains and looked outside. A pair of young lovers walked down the street. The boy looked totally normal but the girl was a young poodle-woman, her white, curly hair pulled back into a fluffy pony tail!
And no one thought this was strange!
He turned on the TV and the usual anchorwoman was now a poodle-fied version of herself. Ty ran to the bookshelf, pulled out an encyclopedia and looked up human anatomy. Sure enough, the male anatomy remained unchanged, but according to the book, women now all had more in common with poodles than apes. The fashion magazines on the counter were now all about proper grooming, bathing, and what bows go with what collars.
What had he done!?
Suddenly the doorbell rang. Ty answered it. There stood his childhood friend Charlene. He'd always had a crush on her. Of course, that was before she became her poodle-self.
"Hi Ty," she said, her tail wagging. "Mind if I come in?" She followed her sentence with a cute little yip.
Ty was hesitant. This was too weird. And yet, there was something about her that was still sort of attractive. In fact, yes. Yes. She was a girl. He was a guy. What's strange about that? Oh no, he thought, could I be adapting to this strange new world already!?
"Yeah, Charlene, come in!" he found himself saying.
