Tom shimmies up to the fountain (a rather ornate water fountain about the size of a birdbath), using her flabby arms to hold what remains of his/her clothes. Ashley and Josh followed reluctantly. Josh was also fanning himself while being careful to keep his clothes on his now mature female body.
Ashley noticed the sign by the fountain: Fountain of Memories. Wonder what that means, she thought. Tom was already sipping greedily from the water fountain like he/she hadn't had a drink in days.
Josh was fanning himself faster. "Hurry up, Tonya," he gasped. Tom stepped aside and breathed heavily, his/her massive bosom moving up and down with the effort. Josh soon started to drink from the fountain just as rapaciously as Tom did.
"Tonya?" Ashley wondered aloud. "Did Josh just call you Tanya?"
Tom/Tonya didn't have time to answer as he/she watched his/her clothing change. The shredded clothing grew and reformed, encasing her skin like a cocoon before the straps formed and the flowery pattern appeared and soon Tom/Tonya was now clad in a summery dress. New articles of clothing and jewelry began to form: a bracelet here, a ring there, low-heeled sandals on her feet, a wide-brimmed hat on her head, and sunglasses on her face. A large purse even appeared on the new woman's arm. Ashley saw that Tom/Tonya's nails were now painted red and a small bit of makeup was on her face, the hair under his/her hat was freshly styled and dyed blonde.
What Ashley didn't see was the fountain living up to his name as Tom memories were overwritten with Tanya memories of growing up in Memphis as a girl, losing her virginity to the man she would marry and then divorce, working as a hairdresser, dating more men and taking them to her bed. A whole life as Tanya circumvented the teen life of Tom.
"Lawsy me, dear," Tanya said, flustering. "Don't rightly know what came over me."
Ashley turned to see Josh undergo a similar transformation in clothing, but the new woman who had pulled a Kleenex from her new purse to wipe her mouth dressed more sensibly in khaki shorts, sandals and a Snoopy T-Shirt. The new woman's hair was shoulder length and styled, and unbeknownst to Ashley, memories as a children's librarian filled the new woman's head.
"Just the weather, Tanya," the new woman said. "Just the weather."
"Guess you're right, Jean." Tanya was dabbing at her lipsticked mouth with manicured finger. "Guess we can't handle the heat like we used to."
Ashley was beginning to ask what happened, the words coming slowly . . .
