"... split off into groups of three. I want to see each group having at least one male and one female. Decide among yourselves who will be the parents and who will be the baby".
"What about us?" said Steve, starting to feel a bit left out as he noticed the glances going on between you and Mina.
"Mr. Parson, the three of you have already contributed by volunteering to demonstrate, so you're excused from this assignment".
"Assignment?" asks someone else.
"That's right. You will be undergoing the process of conception right here, just like your friends did, but I will set the pregnancy for 24 hours. The assignment will be completed by birth tomorrow, here, at the same time. There's 19 of you left to do the assignment, so one group is going to have to carry twins, I'll leave that up to you to decide who. Once you've chosen your group talk to me so I can get the ball rolling for you".
The class got noisy as people started picking out partners. Several of the groups are playing rock-paper-scissors to decide who's who. But you couldn't help looking at Mina, and she kept looking back at you.
You felt different about each other.
It was love. But it wasn't a crush like you had on her earlier. You felt connected on a deeper level. Almost as if...
You couldn't hold it in anymore and got up, sitting next to her. "Mina? Can I talk to you?"
"Sure", she says, blushing a bit.
"Um... about just now..."
"Don't mention it, haha. I did all the work", she says with a smile.
"Th-thanks, but it's not that... I just, um, feel funny about you".
She looks at you. "I know. I do too. It's weird. It's like you're..."
You both say "my mother" and "my son" at the same time, and your eyes widen. That's when the teacher taps your desk.
"Yes, you may have formed some unusual psychological attachments over this accelerated demonstration. But don't worry, they should fade away in a few days. Until then things might be a bit awkward for you".
He walks away, and before you can react Mina gives you a hug.
