According to Google there were different traditions to insure or prevent the change. None seemed to be 100% effective but some had good success rates. It also seemed that the recommended rituals changed based on the season.
Since it was spring, the recommended a mixture of flower extract. Crocus, daffodils, lilac, and iris flowers helps change one sex. It stated to use it after showers, and to coat it especially thick on genitals and the chest area for best results.
To stay the same another. Concoction to stay the same included daisy's, delphinium, and gardenias. It had the same advice about when to how to coat yourself.
This gave you a 30% increase chance of changing, at least. There was another increase in 5% increments depending on how long before the festival you started to use it. Considering Oliver's age range had a 50% chance of changing, he could almost guarantee a change.
His brother however was 13. It seemed nobody changed before their 13th birthday, and they had a 99% chance of changing on their first cosmic transition. Reports also said that methods to decrease the change didn't seem effective until after the first change so Oliver was would certainly have a little sister soon. He wondered if Alan was looking for to being Alice.
The rest of his research focused on his new life history. Going through social media, phone messages and a dairy he found, he was able to piece together a pretty good look at his life.
In his old world, Oliver had been single and mostly hung out with his friends Victor and Travis. In this world relationships seemed a bit more fluid. It was expected that people would eventually settle down with one person and trade roles with them as they felt, but before that it was normal to experiment.
Relationships formed and ended quiet frequently during cosmic transition. It would seem that Oliver had been the girlfriend of both Travis and Victor and was currently dating Victoria.
Looking at messages, Olliver wasn't sure it was going well. It looked like she wanted to switch places and be the boyfriend for awhile. That or she wanted Olliver to switch alone and try out a lesbian relationship. Neither of them had done that yet. Either way it seemed she didn't want to date Oliver while he was still a boy anymore.
Travis on the other hand seemed to be planning to be a girl and wanted to know if either Oliver or Victor would be available to go on a date with Tracy. Victoria said that depended on Oliver's plan. She had dated both Travis and Tracy but Oliver had only been with Travis so she recommended that they try that if he wasn't going to keep dating her.
It was odd at how casual she seemed to discuss breaking up, but it seemed people took relationships a lot less seriously during high-school now. Looking at the calendar it would seem that if they wanted to try any of the rituals to increase or decrease their odds they would need to try it soon.
