Anna was caught. She didn't want to lie but neither did she intend to tell the whole truth. "I thought you were asleep"
"No. Once I realised it wasn't you in the bed I decided to wait up and catch you when you came back. So.... Where have you been?"
"Um... I snuck into town. I needed some more supplies"
"Town? What's so exciting about that town? There's not much there"
Anna was caught holding the Target bag in her hand "I had forgotten to pack my comfy shoes. I'd noticed a Target store and knew they would have some. So I snuck out. You won't dob me in will you?"
Kylie suspected Anna wasn't telling the whole truth. "I won't dob on you... but only if you tell me the whole truth... Did you sneak out to meet a boy?"
"I wish" Anna pictured Mark as the hamster woman he had become. She hardly qualified as a boyfriend anymore "Unfortunately I won't get to see my boyfriend until camp is over. I really did just go into town to buy a pair of shoes"
Kylie was still sceptical "Show me these shoes"
Reluctantly Anna took the shoes from her bag and showed them to her room mate "Please don't tell on me" she begged the girl
Kylie examined the shoes They didn't seem particularly special to her. She noticed they were her size. "I won't tell" she reassured Anna "But next time you sneak out, I want to come with you"
Anna was relieved to hear that. Since she no longer had to sneak back into bed she decided to visit the bathroom, so gathered her toiletries bag and left the room.
Kylie was curious about the shoes. They must be very comfortable if Anna was determined to sneak out of camp just to get a new pair. Intrigued she fitted the shoes to her own feet. She got out of bed and walked around the room. They seemed comfortable enough but nothing really special. Perhaps they needed to be worn in? She took them off and placed them back onto Anna's bed, before returning to her own.
When Anna returned she noticed the shoes back on her bed and placed them back into the shopping bag. She said "Good night" to Kylie, before turning off the light and getting into her own bed. She had experienced a long busy day and quickly fell asleep.

Kylie woke early, aware that someone was moving in her room. It was early, only dim light was shining through the crack in the curtains. She noticed Anna was up and getting dressed. She sat up in her bed "Where are you off to so early?"
Anna had hoped to sneak out and get to Mark without Kylie noticing. Clearly that was not going to be the case. She had to think of some excuse "I'm off to meet my friend Jennifer. She came in late last night and missed the orientation tours. I promised to give her an orientation of the camp before the day started" Anna, grabbed the bag containing the shoes she had purchased last night and left the room before Kylie could question her further.
Kylie was left sitting in her bed as the door closed. Anna was certainly behaving suspiciously. She looked at her phone and saw it wasn't even 7 am. Activities didn't start until 9. What was Anna's hurry? Kylie decided to investigate. She got out of bed and hurriedly dressed.

Kylie didn't know what direction Anna had gone. Was her friend Jennifer even in the same dormitory? She took a punt and walked down the corridor to the back door. From the top of the stairs there was a good view of the camp. Maybe she could spot Anna?
Kylie looked out. She couldn't see anyone. She was about to turn around and head to the front door when she sensed some movement in the periphery of her vision. Sure enough there was Anna, she was alone and heading towards the track down to the lake. Kylie hurriedly followed. What was Anna hiding?
