The laptop suddenly opened, and began to expand and grow, the screen lighting up. Mary hadn't clearly specified how machines and humans would reverse roles, so the Chronivac had to interpret it somewhat liberally.
As she watched, pieces of the laptop began to separate. The screen came off, floating in the air, the keyboard, the speaker, microphone, antennas, webcam, battery and all the associated plastic shell...revealing the laptop's motherboard.
The webcam flew directly at Mary's face, embedding itself in her forehead. She could feel something pressing into her head, before suddenly, she could see through it...a fixed, somewhat fisheyed view of the room. She suddenly panicked...this wasn't what she thought she was getting into. With a strange pop...her eyeballs popped out of her sockets, leaving her only with the webcam view. She saw them flying toward the motherboard, connecting into it and floating in the air like a ghost.
Her nose popped off and joined her eyeballs in the air, connecting into the motherboard. She reached up to discover that her eyes and noseholes had completely filled in, leaving only the lens in the middle of her head. She suddenly couldn't hear a thing when her ears both popped off and joined the crowd of her sensory parts gathering around the motherboard.
She tried to call out, before the tiny laptop speaker embedded itself in her mouth. She could feel more connections from it moving down her throat before the speaker sealed itself in place. Blessedly, the microphone joined it, embedding itself just below her camera eye. Suddenly, she could hear again...if poorly.
She turned to the mirror, seeing her now featureless face, with three holes...camera, microphone pinhole, and speaker....and nothing else.
