Arion scowled after yet another attack run. The army was eliminating soldiers, just not fast enough to make a difference. Arion himself led several runs, his forces focusing on the necks of the soldiers in hopes of slitting their throats. That tactic though wasn't as effective as it could be, most of the soldiers dodged after the initial slice or the attack did minimal damage.
"General!"
Arion turned, noting the young Captain flying neat him. "Yes Captain," he stated. "Sir our forces are taking heavy casualties," the Captain exclaimed. "Our last run cost us an entire platoon!" Arion nodded, scouting the battlefield as he watched his army engage. The fairy army was inflicting casualties, at least 20 so far, but it was proving to be a pyrrhic effort. For every soldier felled at least 40 fairys were incinerated in the flames. They needed a better way of destroying the attackers. Studying the Normal soldiers carefully, Arion could see few weaknesses, save perhaps one. The fuel lines.
"Captain," Arion instructed, the red fairy gesturing to the enemy. "Have our forces target the fuel lines of the attackers. Severe the lines and ignite them. I will radio the city and tell them to focus their attacks where we go. Let us use the invaders own weapons to incinerate them."
"Sir," the Captain stammered. "If the tanks on those soldiers explode.." Arion furrowed his brow, silencing the young Captain. He was well aware of the risk, the explosion of the tanks would no doubt take parts of the fairy army with it. "We're running out of options Captain," Arion replied forcefully. "If we don't stop them soon we won't have a home left to defend!" The Captain nodded, flying off to rejoin his soldiers as Arion gazed down at the battlefield once more. If this was to be his last battle, he would sacrifice himself for his people.
Nearby, Spark and Connor finally located the source of the disruption. The five minutes it took were agonizing for the pair, worried that it would be too late to stop them. Hiding in the thick woods, the two teens now carefully studied their opponents. "I count five," Spark whispered, to which Connor nodded. "And that must be the device in the middle," he added. Taking a breath, the two teens now gazed at one another.
Connor had come unarmed to the fae realm. While Arions armor afforded him protection, he would need to rely on his own skill. Spark too would need to fight hand to hand, this time though in her human form. "You ready," Spark asked. "I didn't spend all those years training in Wing Chun for nothing," Connor smirked. Maneuvering closer, the pair waited for a moment, looking for the perfect moment before striking.
Connor found a nearby rock to use as a distraction and tossed it away far enough for one of the soldiers to investigate, allowing them an opportunity get the other four as Connor tapped his finger on the shoulder of the closest soldier as he turned around and caught him off guard allowing him to get in a few blows before knocking him out leaving them with only three more guards to deal with.
Spark sparred with one closest to her and was surprised that hers was almost on equal footing, before Spark managed to swipe at his legs knocking him onto the ground before getting a blow to the man's head. "Two down three to go."
The three remaining soldiers now turned, their rifles pointing towards both Connor and Spark. Thankfully for the teens they were faster, diving under their line of sight before kicking the weapons away. Spark smirked, this was going to be easy.
THWACK
Spark tumbled backwards, momentarily dazed from the blow. It seemed these soldiers had hand to hand training, one of the soldiers having delivered a thunderous kick to Spark. Connor, seeing what happened to Spark, now began to fight. As he did, Spark realized something. This was not going to be easy.
These soldiers were well trained, countering Connors attacks and landing their own. Slowly but surely, Connor was being overwhelmed. Stumbling backwards, he now wiped blood from his mouth as he glared at the trio. "These guys aren't fooling around."
"Yeah and we're running out of time," Spark exclaimed. "If we're going to beat these guys, we're going to have to do it together." Connor nodded, a small smile spreading across his face as he took Spark's hand. "Always."
Darting forward, Spark and Connor now fought as a team. Their actions synchronized, complimenting eachothers weaknesses, and enhancing eachothers strengths. Spark, trained in the fae military discipline, speed, agility, and precise strikes. Connor, trained in Wing Chun by masters of the art. Agility and technique honed to a razors edge. Separately they could be defeated yet together, none could oppose them.
It was over before either knew what happened. One moment, their attackers stood before them, the next all three of their attackers lay unconscious on the ground. For a moment they stood stunned, not able to believe what happened. Shaking himself from his stupor, Connor now sprinted towards the device, Arions enchanted armor smashing it to pieces.
"Did...did it work," Spark asked.
"Let's hope so," Connor said. Both teens now turning back towards the sounds of battle. Hoping their actions saved this realm.
