You did it! A functioning portal! An instant shortcut through space! That was, if it actually led anywhere and not just into some ceaseless empty void.
You double checked the readout on your computer over your shoulder. You’d set it up so you’d end up directly in your spare bedroom, which had been prepared specially, with no change in size between exit and entry.
You couldn’t see what was on the other side of the portal, only a strange swirling blue vortex. Nervous but grinning, you stepped right through the swirl and to the other side.
Unfortunately, you hadn’t done computer programming in college. You had only begun to learn coding once it became time to make the operating system your wormhole generator would operate on from the ground up, which is sort of impressive. However, that meant the program wasn’t exactly errorproof.
Unbeknownst to you, a minor glitch had caused a series of logic errors resulting in a misalignment of the number imputs. Despite the numbers shown on the screen, not only were the coordinates actually wrong, but the size of the two portals wasn’t equal: if, say, an average-sized young adult were to pass through the portal
Immediately upon stepping through the portal, the fact that something had to have gone wrong was immediately apparent. Taking in your new size, you look up at…
