An alarm went off inside a exceptionally dark room. Matt Alberts turned it off quickly, hoping to avoid the wrath of his older brother, John, who has come home from college. John was 20 years old, 6'9", and weighed at least 260 pounds of raw muscle without any steroids. He was the star running back on his college team with 5 touchdowns, and a 64 yard run after only 2 games this season. John had always made fun of Matt for being the skinniest male in his family. It was true, even his little brother Michael outweighed him and he was only 12, while Matt had just turned 16. Matt was barely even eye level with his little brother anymore, though that wasn't unusual when your brother has already reached just short of 6 foot at 12. Really the case wasn't that Matt was all that small for his age, it was just that his family was big.
What made this worse was that everyone in his family had always been a star athlete even in college. His dad could have gone pro if he hadn't dropped out near the beginning of sophmore year & his older brother was on the same pace that his dad was at this point.
Everyone always had some major athletic feat to talk about at dinner, while Matt, even though he was an above average runner, did not.
After showering and getting dressed, Matt headed upstairs to eat breakfast, which consisted of eggs and bacon.
He left in a hurry, barely catching the bus as he sprinted down the sidewalk.
He got on and quickly made his way down the aisle sitting next to his friend Ryan. The ride to school was short and they got off as the bus came to a stop.
After talking to Ryan for a while went to his geometry class. His teacher Mrs. Burkes was already setting up the projector for the notes, and he sat down in the back, trying not to call too much attention to himself. The bell rang and, after the usual morning routine, they all sat down for class.
The day went by slowly as usual, dealing with some of the least emotional teachers he had had in his life. The only good part of his day was always when the bell rang to release them from the constant torture that was 10th grade.
He was running late for the bus today, after stopping to get his test back and despite intense efforts to catch the bus, he was forced to walk three miles back to his house.
Little did he know the fate that awaited him on his trip back.
