As her mother carried her to the examination room, she felt like her shrinking had slowed a bit. She looked around the room and saw it was clearly one meant for small children with a bunch of cartoonish posters and more colorful than normal exam room. As she thought about this she saw the doctor and realized she was a pediatrician. The doctor was an Indian lady who looked like she was in her mid thirties. Her hair was a dark brown tied in a ponytail and was a little shorter than her mother was.
Hello there Lisa, it's me Doctor Shelia, Are you not feeling well sweetie? Lets see what is wrong with you. Said the Doctor who put her face right up to Lisa as she was cradled in her mother's arms.
May I take her to start the examination? Asked the Doctor addressing Lisa's mother.
Sure thing, but she has been a bit fussy because of her not feeling well. Hopefully she doesn't give you too much trouble. Said Lisa's mother handing her off to the doctor.
The Doctor nodded and held Lisa and than put her on the examination table and started unswaddling her from her blanket, which left her only in a diaper. This really embarrassed having been exposed to another woman in such a way. The Doctor than lifted her up again and put her on a nearby baby weight scale and laid her down. It felt cold on Lisa's back and she couldn't do anything about it.
Hmm, 14lbs, 10oz. A little under for a 5 month old, but okay for now. Said the Doctor very gently as she picked Lisa up again and put her back a top her blanket.
Okay lets take your temperature sweetie and see if you are running a fever. Said the Doctor who reached into her coat pocket and pulled out a thermometer.
Lisa was not happy of having to have such a thing in her mouth and was opening it in preparation for it to go in. As she thought and tried to do this, her mother appeared and started removing her diaper and than turned her over on her belly with her hands on her back. This shocked Lisa for a moment at her mother doing this, but then quickly realized what was happening. As she laid there the Doctor put the thermometer up her butt and started taking her temperature in the way most do for babies. She felt more embarrassment and was about to cry when the Doctor removed it from her backside and checked the results.
Okay looks like she isn't running a fever either. Lets just check her lungs and we should be good to go. Said the Doctor, who was taking out her stethoscope and placing it on Lisa's back and than chest.
Lisa was livid at this point and if not for the shrinking slowing down, she would be throwing a grade A tantrum. She was hoping that it was finally stopping and she wouldn't end up getting any younger.
Okay looks like she is a healthy three month old and the isn't much wrong other than making sure to feed her more during meals. You are breastfeeding right? Said the Doctor towards Lisa's Mother.
Yes, I've been nursing her. She can be fussy though and tends to stop early sometimes and won't latch on again. Spoke her mother a bit apologetic.
Its fine, that's how babies can be sometimes. Just keep trying to get her to feed and start bringing in some soft food for her if she finishes early. Spoke the Doctor in an understanding tone.
Lisa's put her back in her diaper and than wrapped her up in the baby blanket. She then picked her up and thanked the Doctor, while moving Lisa's arm to wave bye to her. Lisa was glad the exam was over and felt like her shrinking was much slower or had stopped, but wasn't sure.
