In some ways, August was considered the final month of summer; in other ways, August was considered the hottest month of summer, if not in the year. In Animalia and its colonies, August was considered both, and was dealt with in some really creative ways.

With the Olympics in full swing (though there were some raising a hullabaloo on the internet about the opening ceremony, with some attacking it as a "woke mockery of Christianity"), everyone was enjoying the games, though Animalia was 'participating' in a different way. After Olympic athletes had finished their event, they would travel to an Animalia Colony to compare their own skills to those of amateur Animalian athletes.
What was undoubtedly the most popular of this was the Beach Volleyball tournament on Ao Guang Island, though there were some reasons that were less professional than others, especially since "Ria" was one of those taking part. In the end, however, the amateur Animalians managed to win by a single point (I'm no expert on volleyball, though, so what do I know?).

Elsewhere on Ao Guang, people were dealing with the tropical heat in a different way: with a grand water gun fight (actually, two different kinds). The more family-friendly one was near the Beachway, while the more risqué one was farther north and (temporarily) fenced off, with workers redirecting any tourists who'd mixed up the two locations to the correct locations, and thereby prevent any unintentional mental scarring.

What was probably the biggest thing heating up was the development of Gondwana Land, Animalia's newest (and fastest developing) Dinotopian Colony. While most of the attention was, understandably, on the gold being found there, the locals were more focused on the needed commodities that were coming along with the gold seekers, such as much needed medical care, for example.

Of course, one thing Animalia and its colonies were gearing up for ahead of time was the Year of the Snake competition. Though some would scratch their heads at this, others were more understanding. Of course, the one who was the most confused about this was Slick, though he was grateful for the BARA house helping him out with training.

Of course, August was going to be considered one of the slower months due to not having any real holidays to celebrate, so there wasn't going to be too much going on otherwise.
