"Well, this is why you exist. Are you ready?" Jeff asked sitting back down at his computer.
"I guess, but seeing how its worked so far makes having a twin feel kind of pointless. We know it works, we know it will make either of us exactly how we tell it to, and we know it can make our new selves seem normal to others regardless how big the change is." Danny seemed almost sad that it worked as advertised.
"Yeah, but having one of us unchanged means we can pull the other back from a god complex or an existence we wouldn't want, meaning we can try weirder, dumber, or even dangerous things safely so long as one of us can still use the computer." Jeff reasoned.
"You mean..."
"Yeah. You're going to live out our wildest lives and tell me all about it, we can decide what to keep together."
"That's exciting but we wouldn't be twins if I'm off living another life." Danny said with a hint of worry.
"I'll make sure to keep you a family member. A brother or uncle in most cases, but when the timer runs out you'll pop back to this reality." Jeff knows Danny already knows this, but if Jeff was just brought into existence as a test dummy and was being told he was about to be shoved into a completely different life, he would need some reassurance too.
Jeff made some clicks and activated the machine. Danny began growing as reality around them warped becoming Jeff's room again. "Who am I?" Danny asked panic setting in. His voice dropped, and stubble stretched across his face as he aged.
"For the next week you're my 19 year old brother, you're going to college to study finance and have a job. You're also a stoner." Jeff jumped up and hugged Danny though it was a little awkward as he was growing. "Have fun and do all the things I'd never do!" Jeff looked Dan in the eyes and smiled reassuringly, and in an instant Jeff was embracing air
Danny appeared in a dorm room his head swimming with this new realities details. He checked his phone, he worked tonight, at the local pizzeria... "Aw Jeff what did you do to me."
Jeff blinked, his room, stuffed to the brim a second ago, now seemed to have no trace his brother existed save for the bunk bed for him to crash on when his brother is home from college. Eerily enough, Jeff felt a strong and sudden sense of loss. He pulled out his phone and saw Danny in his contact list. He could call or text, but knew he was all right and really had nothing to say.
Jeff went from being an only child, to being a twin, then the younger brother in the last half hour and already misses his older brother.
