Connor slowly opened his eyes to look around at his surroundings. He saw that he was in what looked to be a hospital room with Spark sitting next to him looking distraught.
"Spark? What happened?" Connor groaned.
"You're awake! Nina, Caleb, Julia, Rick, he's finally awake!" Spark joyfully called out to the hallway door as Spark rushed back over to Connor and happily kissed him repeatedly on his lips and all over his face.
"Okay, okay, I get it, ow, you're overwhelmed that I'm awake and I'm fine." Connor said with a smile as he saw Spark's smile begin to wane.
"What? What is it?" Connor asked nervously at his family.
"Connor, do you remember what happened to you?" Caleb asked his brother.
"Uh....vaguely, I remember we went to that building to scope out the place and took out a nest of ghouls, then.....someone showed up and I think I got knocked out. I was just barely awake then." Connor recalled.
"It was Hannibal. Apparently Wyatt sent him to take you out." Caleb explained to him.
"Duke's brother, really? I thought he was passed that." Connor said.
"Doesn't look like it. I went over there and beat his ass to a pulp. Bruised him up good. I would've finished it, but....Sarah McMillan came in and stopped me. She actually pulled a gun on me." Caleb explained to his brother.
"God damn, anything else happen while you were over there?" Connor asked as Caleb thought back to Wyatt's son, Andrew.
'You monster! Leave my daddy alone bad guy!' Andrew's voice shouted in Caleb's head.
"No, we just left and mom had the hunters break ties with S.P.E.A.R." Caleb finished explaining as he kept the part about Andrew to himself.
"Whoa, what a wild couple of hours I missed. Wait, where's Miles, is he okay? Don't tell me he got it worse than me." Connor asked worriedly.
Everyone's eyes now went to Connor's aunt Julia as she took a deep breath to explain his situation to her beloved nephew.
"Connor, it's been a few days, your friend Miles had got a lot of stitches done, probably have a scar, but he's going to be okay." Julia said as Connor smiled but his smile quickly faded as he realized she wasn't done talking. "You however had it worse than your friend. We just stopped some internal bleeding you had going on. Now the other bad news is that you're going to have to have a hip replacement. You'll still be able to walk, but you're going to have to make some adjustments, and certainly not run like you used to." Julia explained as Connor simply nodded.
"Damn, I always thought Caleb would be the one to get a bad injury, wouldn't you know it? It skipped him and went right to me." Connor said trying to get a chuckle out of his family.
"Wait, where's everyone else? Don't tell me they couldn't wait to see me wake up." Connor asked.
"They'll probably stop by later. We kind of got into a dispute over if Wyatt was actually telling the truth or not. I don't believe he is but others like Duke are....skeptical to say the least." Caleb explained to Connor. "Right now though, we're kinda keeping our distance."
"For real? I can't believe some of them have doubt. I mean, I did just get my ass handed to me. Anyway, how long before surgery Aunt Julia? I want to feel the fresh air again." Connor asked.
"Hold on there soldier, you've got surgery and recovery waiting for you. Don't expect to just hop off the operating table like your dad after he got shot in the shoulder that time." Rick said as the Moreland family besides Julia began to laugh.
"I'll tell you a little later about that one honey." Rick said to Julia kissing her on the cheek.
"Okay, enough talk about surgeries. If you'll all excuse us, I'd like a little privacy with my fiancé, if you don't mind." Spark said waving everyone out as she scooted the chair closer to Connor as everyone began to leave the room.
"I think I dreamed about you." Connor said to Spark with a smile.
"I'm sure. Did you also dream about this?" Spark asked as she leaned in and kissed him as Connor gently took Spark's cheek and kissed her back.
Caleb meanwhile headed over to the bathroom to wash his face and looked into the mirror.
'You monster! Leave my daddy alone bad guy!' Andrew's face shouted back to him from the mirror as Caleb shook his head a yell of anger passing his lips as he smashed the mirror. He then sat down on the toilet, burying his face in his hands.
"I'm not a monster.....and I'm not a bad guy.....I'm not." Caleb said silently to himself.
