As the two nymphs headed off into their forest, the path to the human world began to close. The surrounding vegetation grew in from all sides to cut off further access. At least, it started to.
Before it could finish, the shadow of a nearby tree stretched out a tendril that snaked its way into the remaining hole. The plants immediately stopped their growth as if repelled by this darkness.
"Hm, interesting," a hissing voice muttered. "Another world outside the forest? I must see what this is about."
A blob formed at the end of the tendril that disconnected and moved off into the human world. Behind it, the tendril stayed in place like a foot in the door.
Meanwhile, the blob tested the air. This world had no magic of its own, nymph or otherwise. Not ideal, but that also meant it had no defenses, which made it a good place to start over. For this darkness was the evil spirit that had destroyed the old forest of the nymphs.
That had been an accident, of course. The spirit had not meant to destroy the forest, merely corrupt it into something it could control. However, the nymph world's magic had reacted against it, damaging both parties almost beyond recovery.
This had been a huge setback in the spirit's plans, but not the end. Now, in this new world, perhaps it could build its own power and reenter the nymph world with a full army. The nymph magic would be no match for it, then.
Of course, this would require a starting point, a seed, a small bit of easily corruptible nymph magic to cultivate in its own image. As luck would have it, the nymph that had once been Ty had left behind one such seed, a remnant of her own magic left on one of the residents of this world.
Quickly, the blob scented the magic and followed its trail. At last, it found itself in front of a house.
