The Zoo

You stay with the alpacas, curious about this new life.

added 9 months ago A Mental

You decided to stay with the alpacas, your curiosity overpowering any lingering fear or confusion. There was something soothing about being among them, something primal and simple. Your new senses, sharper and more attuned to the world around you, made the experience feel even richer.

The grass beneath your hooves felt cool and soft, and the breeze carried the scents of the other alpacas, the earth, and the surrounding fields. You breathed in deeply, feeling an odd sense of contentment wash over you. This new body, this strange transformation, no longer felt as foreign as it had just moments ago. Instead, it felt… right.

The other alpacas accepted you without hesitation, their soft hums continuing to vibrate in the air. You noticed how they moved together, their body language communicating in ways you hadn’t understood before. A simple glance, a flick of an ear, the sway of a tail—it all conveyed something. And you realized, with some amazement, that you understood it now, too.

You took a few steps, still getting used to the feel of walking on all fours. It was awkward at first, but your new instincts took over, and soon you were moving with more confidence. Your tail flicked behind you, and the sensation felt strangely natural, like it had always been there.

One of the alpacas, the cream-colored one you had first encountered, nuzzled against you, and you responded in kind, leaning in slightly. There was a sense of companionship here, a silent understanding that didn’t require words. The simple act of standing beside the herd felt... peaceful.

Time seemed to slip away as you grazed alongside them, your new alpaca instincts guiding you. Occasionally, you would lift your head, ears twitching at the sound of distant footsteps or voices from the zoo visitors, but none of them noticed anything out of the ordinary. To them, you were just another alpaca, blending in perfectly with the rest of the herd.

You found yourself humming softly, mimicking the sounds of the others. It was a strange sensation at first, but the sound resonated in your chest, calming you even further. There was no rush, no urgency—just the simplicity of this new life.

After some time, the handler who had spoken to you earlier returned, carrying a small bucket of feed. She looked over at the herd, her eyes scanning the group. You froze for a moment, wondering if she would notice anything unusual about you, but she just smiled and set the bucket down.

“Here you go, guys,” she said softly. The other alpacas trotted over eagerly, and you followed, now fully immersed in the herd’s daily routine. You bent down to eat, and the taste of the fresh hay and grain felt surprisingly satisfying.

As you stood there, chewing contentedly, you realized something profound. You could stay here, like this, living the simple life of an alpaca. There was no pressure, no stress—just the calm rhythm of this new existence. You could lose yourself in it, let go of the complexities of human life.

The question now was whether you wanted to stay in this peaceful new reality, or if some part of you still yearned for the world you’d left behind.
