Leah's tummy rumbles. She holds her breath nervously, but nothing comes out into her diaper.
"I think that was a hungry noise, not a poopy one," Rita says. Leah nods. "Well, you did just empty. A lot. You need to get something back in you!"
"Agreed," Leah says. Rita gently places Leah on the ground, stands up, and then picks Leah up again. Before Leah can ask what's going on, her question is answered when Rita buckles her into one of the strollers that parents could rent to use at the park.
"Between the diaper and your little legs, you're going to get tired and go slow," Rita says before Leah can say anything. Leah merely sucks on her pacifier. It is nice, she has to admit. She does often need more breaks than others. And the diaper truly will make that even worse. Getting a break is a relief.
Rita puts the diaper bag over her shoulder and pushes the stroller into the more populated part of the park. Leah cringes, expecting people to point and laugh at her, a diapered teenager sucking on a pacifier in a stroller. But to her surprise, nothing happens. No one pays any attention to her, other than a few people who tell Rita that Leah is an adorable toddler.
They make their way to the food court. Leah's mouth waters at the options before her. Then Rita changes course, heading for the food stand for babies and toddlers.
Rita does need to keep up appearances, Leah reminds herself. And hopefully, it's still good food.
