"Then let's get to work. This very evening, I wish for my girlfriend's new boyfriend Thomas to be transformed into a goldfish," said Damon with a wicked smile.
"As you wish," the genie said, crossing her arms.
It was easy enough for her but she was annoyed at the pettiness of her master. She'd have to teach him a lesson at some point. It was not because she was used to the negative characteristics of mortals that she had to let them slip by as if she was too innocuous or stupid not to notice what fools they were. And mortal men were the worst. Though mortal women's jealousy came close second too. She'd had gathered enough unfortunate experience across the centuries.
"Do you require any other specifications? This transformations is rather vague," she said calmly.
Damon thought for a moment.
"I know!" he exclaimed. "Thomas shall become a beautiful exotic goldfish. But female. That'll be a new side of beauty he'll hate! Ha! And he becomes my pet, so he'll be stuck in a big aquarium, all in a mermaid them. I'll call him 'Mermaid', actually. And of course he'll keep his human mind. So he'll be aware of all the taunts I can throw at him. Yes, that's my wish!"
"You got it," sighed the genie.
And indeed that evening, in a puff of smoke, poor hapless Thomas went from dressing himself in his home to swimming in water. From breathing water. Through his mouth, then sensing openings in his neck. Openings that palpitated incessantly. And his body felt too rigid. Except his limbs that flowed freely. The poor victim of the genie went around his new environment. Which turned out to be circular, and quite small. The surface felt like it was choking him. What was happening? What had rendered the air toxic? And why could he swim so well? Oh, and why was he swimming amongst a huge sunken castle, statues of mermaids, anemone and corals? It was when he saw himself upon the rigid surface surrounding him that he understood. There was a goldfish. A goldfish that moved just like him. A goldfish that WAS him. A goldfish whose scales looked like a living sunset, all golden and red. But how had he, Thomas, a human being, become a stupid fish is an aquarium? He got startled when a huge grinning face pressed itself against the glass. Those teeth! This mouth! Thomas cowered into the fake castle and the peeped out. It was... Yes, deformed, but it was Damon! Monica's ex! What was he doing here?
"Enjoying your new home, Thomas? Or rather, Mermaid?" he jeered in a mean tone. "You're such a pretty female fish now! And all thank to the help of my personal genie here! So be a good fishy or else..."
Thomas looked at the woman in exotic clothing in the far side of the room. It was not dream. It did not feel like one, in spite of looking crazy enough to be one. He, Thomas, was currently a goldfish, a female at that, trapped in an aquarium and the pet of a jerky guy who hated him because of a girl! What if he wished something worse upon him? Thomas attempted to shout his terror and anger but solely bubbles came out. He was stuck, the evil laugh of Damon the only sound.
