You see the light become brighter, then turn blue. For a moment, it looks mystical, beautiful. You stare at it entranced. But suddenly, water comes gushing out of the orb!
Like a broken fire hydrant, but in 360 degrees, water is spraying out of the orb, still illuminated by the light also emanating from it brighter than ever. The stream hits you with such force that it knocks you on your back, and you lay there stunned for a few minutes. Then as you feel the water inch up around your body, it hits you like a truck that you're in danger!
You have no time to ruminate on the impossibility of what's happening, or take care of whatever injury you sustained in the fall -- you have to get out of here! Fortunately you don't seem too hurt as you clamber to your feet without difficulty, and splash your way to the door. Already the water is over your ankles, and rising steadily. You get to the door and try to unlock it, but you can't. Frustrated, you try harder, but the knob seems frozen. Panicking, you tug and twist, but it doesn't move. The water climbs up to your knees as you wrestle fruitlessly with the door.
Finally you gives up on it, and look wildly around. Your house is starting to smell like the sea, and you feel a strange longing stir in you; but it isn't enough to distract you from your fear. Your house is filling with salt water, and you have to find a way out!
You wade towards the kitchen, which has windows large enough that you could get out through them. Since you live on ground level the fall would not be far. Even if you could just get them open to let the water run out, that would be something. You brace yourself against the wall as you pass through the spray from the orb again, shivering as it thoroughly soaks you this time. Your skin continues to tingle as you fight past the jetting water, and your clothes seem to be getting thinner and transparent. But you ignore it as you reach the windows.
No luck. As with the door, the latches on both seem to be frozen. Desperately you pick up your coffee maker and smash it into the glass, but that does nothing except jar your arm.
What's going on!? you wonder, as you gaze out of the window at the world -- a world which suddenly seem so blissfully normal... and impossibly far away. That fucking orb -- did it seal me in here? Why?!?
The water now laps at your loins. As it penetrates through your saturated clothing, you feel an odd stirring down there, and a thrill of desire and excitement threads through your panic. You feel a bit of irritation -- this is no time to be horny! You shake your head and focus.
The more water there is, the faster it seems to rise. But a final hope of salvation occurs to you -- your phone! It is sitting on your dresser in your bedroom. Maybe you can call for help, maybe someone can break in from outside. You turn and move quickly towards your room, now using your arms to help you move through the water as it rises to your chest.
Once again you have to fight past the powerful streams of water from the orb, and this time your clothes dissolve completely. This is actually helpful, the uncomfortable cling of wet fabric disappearing from your skin together with the drag of it against the churning liquid. It's weird, but just one more thing to think about later when you aren't in danger.
You finally get to your phone, snatching it just before the water reaches it, and put in the password. But your hope is dashed when you see it say "no signal". Despairing, you try to dial 911 anyway, but no luck. Whatever magic this is has you completely trapped.
You feel yourself lifting off the floor, the water starting to win against gravity. You swallow. Is this the end? You stare at your useless phone, then close your eyes and breathe. You start to feel resigned, and calm down a bit.
Almost without thinking, you turn and begin half-walking, half-swimming back to the living room. You want to be with the orb. Somehow, it feels right and you don't question it -- the rational part of you has completely given up. As you go through the door, you see the orb just as it completely submerges, the water shooting out of the top causing the surface of the rising sea to bubble and froth like a fountain. Now just below the surface, its light blue radiance shines through the water like a submerged sun. Now you are simply treading water, staring at it as your furniture, gmaes, books and other possessions float up around you.
You feel frustrated as much as afraid. How could something so beautiful do this to you? What kind of cruel trick was this? Why? You think about smashing the orb, but know that would be futile too -- it is probably indestructible, and the strong currents flowing out of it make getting close impossible anyway.
Soon your head bumps against the ceiling. You take a last, deep breath as the water fills your house completely. As you hold your breath, you wonder what will happen now that there is no empty space left to fill and water keeps pouring out of the orb -- you can still feel the strong flow from it. if your house explodes, that would at least save you from drowning.
But no, to your bafflement and further frustration, your hosue just seems to come apart and wash away. Walls, ceiling and floor fade into a limitless blue expanse, illuminated by the brightly glowing orb. Your furnishings and possessions drift off and melt, except for your phone which you still clutch uselessly.
Finally you can hold your breath no longer. The panic returns for a second, but your body forces you to exhale in a burst of bubbles. Then inhale, and --
You are fine. You can breathe?
"What the --!?"
Relief floods through you, but you are so, so confused. Why can you breathe underwater!? You look down, and you realise it's because...
