As Tina and Leah walked through the store, Tina noticed Leah was keeping behind her.
"Come now, Leah, walk next to me. I won't bite." Tina teased. To her surprise, Leah immediately moved to walk next to her without another argument.
"Oh, um, great!" Tina responded, not expecting the girl to actually listen, but happy all the same, "You know, me and my mother used to play games when we went though stores like this."
"Uh huh." Leah responded, arms crossed and not looking at her. Tina frowned slightly, hoping that Leah wanted to bond but now unsure. Leah, though unsure why she walked next to Tina, just wanted to be left alone.
"Well...how have things been? Have anyone you're interested in? I'm always down for a little gossip."
"Ugh, please don't ask me about that." Leah groaned, regretting her placement already. Tina cringed; what do you ask a teenager about for small talk?
"Oh, Leah, can you grab that ladle for me? I'd be really-"
Leah grabbed a random ladle off a shelf before Tina could even finish.
"O-Oh, um, thank you but I meant the larger one there." Tina asked, and once again Leah grabbed it with her other hand instantly. Leah looked at the two large spoons in either hand, a tad confused.
"Thank you, Leah. Can you hand it to me?" Tina asked, starting to find the behavior a little strange. Leah turned and held both ladles out to her. Tina took the one she wanted, but Leah still held the other one out.
"You can let that one go now, Leah."
Leah let go, and the metal spoon clattered loudly onto the floor, causing them both to jump.
"Leah, what are you doing, pick it back up!" Tina shouted, now a little unnerved. From Leah's face, she's just as confused.
"Can you put it back on the shelf, please?" And Leah placed it on the shelf. The two looked at each other in concern.
