Tonya is hit with a realization so sudden and obvious, she startles Leah by abruptly laughing.
"You okay, Tonya?" Leah's voice was laced with concern, but that confident grin never fell away. The warmth Tonya feels at how attractive and happy Leah looks fills her with so much joy, she starts laughing again, this time hard enough to cry.
"Yes, I'm fine. More than fine. Leah, I'm such an idiot." She cries out, wiping away tears, "I think I'm in love with you. I think I've been in love with you for a long time, and I just never realized."
That was clearly not what Leah was expecting, and it only dawned on Tonya how she said something so major with almost no thought or warning. Her cheeks started burning up as she realized the extent of what she just said, and how she just blurted it out. Leah similarly looked flustered.
"You're telling me this while I'm in a dirty diaper?!" Leah yells indignantly, squirming in place to position her diaper out of view.
"I...oh my god, why did I- uh, could you forget I just said that? Actually, could you just forget I exist at all?" Tonya squeaked, turning her back and wishing the ground would swallow her whole.
"What?! Are you kidding? Tonya, what the hell, you can't just say that and walk away!" Leah grabbed Tonya's hand forcing her to turn back around. Leah grip on her hand changes, holding it with both of her own as her shock washes away into something more akin to hope.
"You...love me?" Leah whispered, as if the words were fragile. Tonya gulped, nodding.
"I...yeah. I do. It just took me so long to realize." There was a lot that Tonya wanted to say, all scrambling too fast in her mind for any of it to get out.
"B-but I don't understand, I'm...even like this?" Leah looked down at her own garb, "I don't- I knew you liked it, but i didn't think you'd- I didn't think anyone would- "
"I like you like this. Especially like this." Tonya said with a grimace. She shut her eyes closed tight as she knew what she needed to say.
"I...like...people in diapers. I don't just think you're cute like that."
There's silence that follows. The silence is so debilitating that Tonya gains just enough courage to pry one eye open. Leah looks at her with deer-in-headlights eyes.
"You think I'm...hot?" A smile starts to spread across Leah's face.
"Yeah." Tonya squeaks out. "And it's not just because of that. It's everything. I just...was too stupid to see it until now."
Tonya sighs, weight of the confession no longer weighing her done, but now jittery at the prospect of rejection.
"I know this is unfair and sudden. I'm not expecting anything, I promise. I shouldn't have blurted that out-"
"Tonya, please, I- god, I never thought you'd ever see me that way. I didn't think anyone could." Leah smiled bashfully, "I thought I'd take these feelings to the grave, and die a lonely, unlovable woman who loved one friend. I neve hoped that friend would love me back."
"So...that's it? We like each other?" Tonya asked tentatively.
"I guess?"
The two stared awkwardly at each other, unsure who should make the next move. Leah decided to make an impulsive decision, and leaned forward to catch Tonya's lips. It was short, more of a peck than anything, but the jolt of electricity that ran through the two was unmistakable. They both had stupid grins splitting their faces, even as Tonya coughed and pinched her nose.
"Yeah. we should probably get you changed."
Leah's face turned red, but her smile never dwindled. "Yeah, we should. Would, uh, you like to change me. As, um...as my girlfriend?"
Tonya couldn't help but chuckle at the delivery.
"Well..."
