Damon soon lost himself in his new body and environment. He twisted and turned, bewildered by the utter beauty of what surrounded him. He was now in a sort of lagoon and seeing the varied marine wildlife filled him with a fascination that he did not possessed before. Those colors! Those animals! The algae even seemed so soft and incredible to behold! Raising himself to the surface, gills palpitating, to observe more his environment. Sweet-smelling flowers grew everywhere. There were mangroves in the distance and tall trees reaching for the clear cloudless sky above. It seemed that this place was a cross between a south Pacific region and a region belonging to the very south of the United States or to Central America. It was bewildering! Teeming with life, endlessly! A blue and orange butterfly landed upon his nose, making him grin, as if to prove indeed that his enthralment was very much justified. Damon grinned, loving where he was and his tail moved in accord with his newfound happiness. He spotted a cave and decided to rest. But first, he decided to make himself a crown and collar of the most beautiful flowers he could possibly find. He then lied down upon the soft warm stone of the cave, stretching and raising hos tail in the air. He was incredibly happy. He started snoozing.
He woke with a start as he felt a shadow fall upon him. He opened his eyes and yelled out. A monster, dripping fresh from the water, was right in front of him! And not any monster! A gillman! A foul ugly creature with hideous fish lips that looked at him with curiosity. What did it want with him? What was its intentions?
