Dan stood on the sidewalk outside the shop, trying to get his eyes to adjust to the bright sunlight.
Suddenly he heard the sound of footfalls running toward him. He looked to his right and saw Donnie M. running full throttle at him.
"I'm gonna pound you, Danny boy!"
Dan took off running again, still gripping the golden liquid the old woman had given him.
Dan was small, but he could run fast. The problem was he didn't have the stamina to run for long distances. Only after a couple of blocks, he was getting winded and thirsty. He needed a drink, but didn't dare stop. It was then he remembered the bottle still in his hand. He managed to twist out the old cork stopper and took a quick slug of the liquid.
It's sweet, thickness was surprisingly refreshing. The old lady was right; it did taste good. Still running he took another swallow. It seemed to energize him.
Suddenly he felt a rush of heat, as though he was struck by lightning. The pulse of it flashed through him. It felt as though he had been plugged into an unseen electric socket and was jolted with energy. He began to sweat hard, but ran all the more faster.
His heart raced, his muscles tensed and he felt a sudden swelling between his legs. It was a feeling he had never experienced before, but it felt good; real good. He ran on feeling like he could run forever. He felt hot, but this heat burned him like no other.
He wanted more.
