Tina glances at Leah in the rearview mirror. Leah blinks, and suddenly she's in a bright pink booster seat. Leah is unable to hide her frustration before Tina notices.
"Look, the law says someone small enough for diapers needs a booster seat," Tina explains. "Honestly, you should be thanking me. You're small enough for a proper car seat."
Leah blinks. Her booster seat is now an actual toddler car seat.
"Tina!" she whines without thinking.
"What? Still upset about your car seat?" Tina asks. "I got the newest model. But given your size, maybe I should have gotten a rear-facing one. You're so small, after all."
Leah just sighs as she finds herself now turned around, strapped into a rear-facing car seat, the kind used for babies and babies alone.
"I know, I know," Tina says in response to Leah's sigh. "It can't feel good being the only person in high school small enough that the law requires a rear-facing car seat. But remember, you're not the only one small enough for diapers at school!"
"Yay," Leah mumbles dejectedly.
"Hmm, I think I know what's causing your grumpiness," Tina says. "You stayed up way too late last night! Why don't you take a nap? We're hitting some traffic now, so we won't be home for a while."
Immediately, Leah's eyes drift shut. She falls asleep before she can even start to worry how sleeping will affect the warps.
