Transform or Dare?

Roll for Transformation

added by EyeOfMagnus 5 months ago O

Kyle waited patiently for an answer. He was already brainstorming the possibilities and had several picked out for Jennifer. After a long moment of silence, Kyle curiously asked, "Are you still there, Jen? It's awfully quiet on your end."
"Yeah, I'm still here, trying to comprehend this bullshit you are making up," snapped back Jennifer.
"Whoa, watch the language! Let's keep it PG, okay? Now, I'm just gonna get right to it and say you get both, as you didn't answer in the minute you had to pick either. So, now I have a lot more to work with." Kyle meticulously twiddled his fingers, already settling on an interesting transformation. "Care to hear what I have to say?"
"Go to hell." Jennifer was ticked off and considered putting the phone down. "You know what, I'll humour you, you damn freak. Tell me what you got, and then leave me the fuck alone."
Kyle sighed into his palm. "Cripes. Okay, let me begin by asking a question. Do you play Dungeons and Dragons, or own a die of some sort?"
Jennifer was taken aback, her face still twisted in frustration. "Why the hell would that matter?"
"Just tell me," said Kyle.
Jennifer looked in her desk drawer, finding something her sister had left behind in her room: a twenty-sided die, the same found in D&D games. "Yeah, I got one right here. Twenty-sided. Why?"
Kyle smirked. It was perfect. "Alright, that die is now linked to how you will change. Every time that die is rolled, you will change. It doesn't matter if it is you or someone else rolling; if it rolls, you will change. The change is always physical, and the change's intensity will increase and decrease depending on the number rolled. The higher the number, the more intense the transformation. For instance, rolling a three could result in you gaining an extra finger, while something like a 17 could make you ten feet taller. There are many more ways you could change, but beware, as rolling several times in a day can get... messy."
Jennifer shook her head in disbelief. "You have got to be kidding me. You're insane. Seriously. Who the fuck do you think you are?"
"HEY!" Kyle shouted back at her. "You said you'd humour me, so keep listening, you ass! Remember, I'm the one in charge right now, not you. Capeesh?"
Jennifer was going to cuss him out but found her words caught in her throat. "... Okay, whatever. Go on."
"Thank you," Kyle sighed. "Okay, for the dare, you must roll the die at least once per day. If you don't, it can have dire consequences. This is starting today, of course. Should you exceed three rolls in a day, you may have a free attempt at a reset roll. Anything above 10 guarantees one trait can be reversed, and above 15 reverses two traits. However, anything below 10 means nothing reverses. If you roll a Nat 20, you reverse all transformations. But only one reset roll per day. There is no cheating allowed; otherwise, the cheater gets an immediate Nat 20 and a change. And that includes a different person, not just you, so be careful with it and who has it." Kyle pauses for a moment. "Also, sorry to keep adding rules, but if another person changes, you may later get a roll that affects both of you at once. I'm serious when I say stick to the rules and don't cheat. Lastly, I'll review your progress at the end of the week, and should you reconsider apologizing to me, I may revoke the curse."
Having said his part, Kyle leans back and listens. Hey hears Jen's breathing on the other end, her ire still burning. "Still there, Jen?"
"Yes, you asswipe. Now you listen. I'm hanging up. And your little fetish game or whatever it is is fucking stupid. Frankly, I think you need some mental help. So go talk some other bitch's ear off and leave me the fuck alone!" With that, Jen furiously hits the "End Call" button on her phone. On the other end, Kyle leans back in his chair. He kicks up his feet on his desk, happy with the success of his curse. "Well, this is going to be an interesting couple of weeks. I wonder what she'll roll first..."
Having hung up, Jen sat back in her bed, staring up at the popcorn ceiling. The call had irritated her. Kyle was a professional geek and knew exactly how to make things very weird. The things he talked about were outlandish. A die that would change her? She chuckled at the stupidity of it all. She had always known he was different, but not in this way. Sometimes, people were misunderstood or just couldn't socialize. Kyle was a prime example of that. It almost made her pity him for a moment before she remembered he was a dick regardless of his obsessions.
Rolling to her side, Jen spotted the die on her desktop again. "What an insane conversation that was. Sometimes, I wonder how those kinds of people exist." She sat up, still peering at the die. "I mean, it's a game piece. It's like giving the title of "President of the World" to a chimpanzee." She laughed at the comparison. As her laughing faded, she grew serious again. "Still, what a dick. You know what, for the sake of his stupid game, this rolls for you, Kyle."
She reached out and picked up the die, tossing it back down to the desk. It rolled about, coming to a stop near the edge. The number on top was a...
