The Long Awaited 2.0 Update!!

added by Woogie, Destroyer of Worlds 3 months ago O
Author note:
I made this modified version to create an alternate version with more chances of variety in changes, but with some more rules in places, and also, no way to obfuscate awareness of changes, as one of the most boring hackneyed plot devices I find in TF stories is altering awareness of changes. Why even change something if you (and sometimes not even you) will be the only one to know something's changed?

You've been by the local magic shop many times, seeing a display for a curious phone app by the cash register for years, but you didn't think much of it because it seemed to be good to be true - an app able to change reality by letting you alter a single word in a generated sentence? Poppycock!! And the display sat there for years, gathering dust. However, today, to your shock, the display had been replaced, updated, showing the app, now having a proper name - MagLib - announcing after all this time it finally had a major 20 update after all these years. You decide to go over and check out the display, which was still offering QR codes to download the app, as it wasn't listed on the typical providers like Android or Apple. This time you grabbed one out of curiosity, just to see what this big "2.0 update" was all about.

Upon scanning the QR code, a prompt showed up asking if you wanted to download this app, and you hit OK. After downloading, it opened on your phone and asked if you’d like to view the updates. Curiously, you selected yes.

A splash screen once again reminded you they had officially upgraded to version 2.0, and also that all updates were, and will always be, free, and if you find anyone charging for updates, please report them. You move past this splash screen to the update page:

* Units used on the app are now set to metric by default. This can be set to imperial in the settings.

* The app's range that the location data can pull from is now 25 meters (82.021 feet) by default, up from 15.24 meters (50 feet), and can adjusted lower, or as high as 40 meters (131.2336 feet), though increasing the range WILL consume more battery power on your phone.

* Selecting a target and the app returning a sentence describing the target, the core feature of the app, still works as intended, but due to certain other feature changes, there is now a required delay of 60 seconds before a new sentence can be generated. This is to allow for the more power generation engine used for the app.

* You may now edit up to two words in the sentence, OR, add or subtract a word in the sentence. Formerly, one could only edit one word, and CANNOT add or subtract words from a sentence.

* A modified sentence can now be saved and further modified in another generation 60 seconds after the previous change up to three times.

* Reality will still shift to reflect the changes.

* Due to the enhanced powers of the new update though, we had to regretfully remove the awareness control feature of the app, meaning everyone, from the target, you, and the entire globe WILL be aware of any and all changes you cause with this version. More will be explained in the tutorial below on this subject...

An image of a map came up on your phones screen. It was a tutorial. The tutorial showed how to select a target and return a sentence. It used an elderly man at a bus stop as an example.

On the screen in a small pop-up menu it read, "Select target and hit 'Return Description.' Description will be randomly generated but always 100% accurate.”

It returned a sentence about the old man. “An 85 year old white man awaiting the bus.”

It showed you how you could change two words.

You could replace “85” with “25” and the man was suddenly younger (don't worry about grammatical issues like "a" and "an" - they'll automatically adjust to he proper syntax, and won't count as one of your changes). You could replace “man” with “woman” and the man would become a woman. You could change “awaiting” to “driving” and the man was suddenly the bus driver. You could change “bus” to “reaper” and the man would soon die!! Or you could use the new two word feature to change "85" AND "man" to "25" & "woman" and make him a young woman, or the new add/subtract feature and add "driver," making it so he's waiting for the bus driver and not the bus.

You can change one or two words at a time, OR, add or subtract a word from the sentence (but not both at the same time). After applying your changes, you can save the modified sentence and change it further up to two more times before being required to generate a fresh sentence, or go ahead and generate a brand new sentence right away, but either way, you must wait 60 seconds to use the app again and apply further changes. Have fun.

The MagLib app dumps you to the main screen, with tabs for generating, scanning, a map of the area, and to your surprise, a list of people in the area, among other things. Your curiosity is piqued now.
