Emily had no idea where she was and neither did anyone else in her study group which seemed to have been transported to what seemed to be an abandoned ancient looking town in the middle of the desert. The sun was beating down from above when they had entered the library it had been almost sunset but wherever they were now the sun was still high in the sky. It had been cool enough back home to need a light jacket but now just standing in a T-shirt was asking it to be soaked in sweat in a couple of minutes.
The sand which covered almost everything made it hard to walk, they sank down three of four inches into the sand with each step. It was like walking through deep snow.
“Any idea where we are?” inquired Chloe
“None.” Confirmed Olivia as they all gathered in what seemed to be a house or possibly a store. Inside the buildings the only places which seemed to be semi-free of the sand and getting out of the sun was a godsend.
“I haven’t found anything in the other buildings.” Stated Mike as he came in, he had stripped down to be bare chested. While not a six pack his chest was muscular and he had wrapped his shirt around his head to attempt to keep his eyes free of sweat.
“I saw a couple of birds drinking from those pools of water, so I think they are fresh.” Added Lily, she was wearing a shirt which was now soaked with sweat to the point that it didn’t matter all that much. It was almost as if she was taking part in a wet T-shirt contest, only her bra was preventing everything from being visible. Emily noticed that Chloe’s eyes were moving toward the skin Lily was showing more than the muscles on Mike.
“Well that is something.” Said Diego as he reached into his laptop bag and pulled out a now empty water bottle. “Anyone want some water.”
“I guess we don’t have much of a choice.” Stated Chloe as she got up, getting her own empty bottle from her bag. “We will die without water.”
Getting empty water bottle from everyone, Chloe and Diego moved out to the nearest of the two pools which flanked the strange statue at the heart of this city. The water was ice cold and felt great when everyone began to drink from the water.
“This feels good.” Said Emily as she all but downed her bottle in one go.
“So now we have to find out where we are.” Added Chloe
“We should wait until nightfall, better to move around when the sun isn’t beating down on us.” Advised Diego slight unsure of himself. “That is what they do in the movies.”
“Agreed it is boiling out there.” Said Mike as he leaned up against the wall of this building and slid down so he sat on the ground. Slowly everyone sat down as they all decided to wait until sundown to make any moves, a couple of times they took turns going back to get water but other than that they waited.
As the sun began to lower over this desert, they prepared to go out. Little did they know something else was being prepared and soon the 1st one of them would leave humanity behind.
