Yuriko was all smiles as she quickly made her way through the hallways of S.P.E.A.R. After a rather harrowing experience in the spirit realm she was able to solve a long cold case that had stifled the paranormal government agency for years.
Rick Morgan had given Yuriko everything she needed. He was the one who orchestrated the attack on Connor Moreland, and while it was impossible to prosecute a ghost, Yuriko did learn of an accomplice.
Casseus.
From what Rick said, Casseus was involved in the planning. The dark wizard tried taking credit for the idea, but Rick was the one recognized as it's mastermind. This infuriated Casseus who felt his own position within the Normal was slipping. When Rick succeeded, Casseus decided there and then to murder Rick and steal his magic. It would lead to Casseus gaining the type of life he dreamed of, but also made him accountable as the only living conspirator.
Yuriko hoped that the information she had could finally put Casseus behind bars. As she turned the corner, she stopped dead as she stared at a woman she hadn't seen in a few years.
"Lynne?!"
"Yuriko?"
"What the hell are you doing here?" Yuriko frowned, folding her arms across her chest. Ever since Lynne unceremoniously dumped her brother, Yuriko's opinion of the woman had dropped significantly. Spotting her cousin Garrett and Tom, only furthered Yuriko's confusion and anger.
"We got attacked by a Wendigo," Lynne countered. "What are you doing here?"
"Solving a cold case," Yuriko stated, her chest swelling. "You know, something productive as opposed to..you know...flirting with every random guy with a cute ass."
"And what the hell is that supposed to mean?!" Lynne exclaimed, the auburn haired woman stomping towards Yuriko. "Last time I checked you were the one who was queen of the pub crawl."
"Yeah well not anymore," Yuriko scoffed, continuing to furrowed her brow. "I solved the Moreland assault. I used my magic to do more than just cure a hangover, unlike some people."
"Oh ha ha Yuki that's rich," Lynne smirked. "Once again though you're behind the times. Tom already solved the case. Also, it's about time you actually used your magic. Aren't you supposed to be like training to be the Obi Wan to the chosen one? Instead of following your boyfriend around like a love struck puppy?"
"Fuck you bitch!"
"Make me skank!"
"This isn't helping!" Tom exclaimed, the young man now casting a spell of his own, placing metallic wall in between the pair. Although Lynne and Yuriko were now separated, they could still see each other, the pair exchanging obscene gestures at one another.
"Okay everyone just take a breath. Now, Yuriko, what did you learn?"
"I traveled to limbo," Yuriko stated. "Talked with Rick Morgan, the wizard who was murdered. He told me Casseus was an accomplice to the entire Moreland assault before he murdered Rick. He's willing to tell S.P.E.A.R everything."
"Yeah that will work," Lynne scoffed, rolling her eyes. "I'm sure a court will just love testimony from an evil ghost in court."
As Yuriko looked to respond, Tom held up his hand.
"Lynne, not helping." He stated, causing the auburn haired woman to sigh before apologizing. "Okay Yuriko that is good news," he said. "And I'm glad you got it, but we'll probably need more. I found the vampire that crippled Connor. He's agreed to give a statement."
"I thought he died?" Yuriko said in awe.
"Apparently not," Tom replied. "Meaning S.P.E.A.R is going to have some questions for the Tepes family. While they're dealing with that though, I need to deal with this Wendigo situation. It tried to kill Garrett and Lynne before murdering a woman."
"Then I'm going with you." Yuriko proclaimed.
"Ugh you can't be serious," Lynne moaned. "What are you going to do? Levitate a pencil?"
"Beats whatever light show you would put on." Yuriko countered.
"Enough, both of you!" Tom exclaimed. Running a hand through his hair, Tom looked between his sister and his ex. He understood why Yuriko was being so nasty, it was to defend him. Yuriko saw how heartbroken he had been since Lynne dumped him. She was coming to his defense. Honestly he thought it a shame, the pair used to get along great when he was dating Lynne. Maybe he could help mend those ties.
"Okay Yuriko you can come," he said, much to Lynne's surprise. "I could use your help. Just tell Director Meyers what you learned and meet me back here."
Yuriko smiled, before once more turning an icy glare back at Lynne. All Tom could do was hope his attempt at mending the two young women's friendship wouldn't end in disaster. Yuriko now went off to meet with Director Meyers leaving the three alone.
"I can't believe she's coming with us," Lynne bemoaned aloud. "I mean, she doesn't even know what we went through, what help could she possibly be?"
"Lynne, please, I agree with Tom on this that you two shouldn't argue, especially considering the situation." Garrett said turning Lynne towards him to face her as she tried to remain looking angry.
"Lynne, please, when we're out there dealing with this situation and the Wendigo, think of Tim. Remember that we're also doing this for Tim." Garrett said holding Lynne's hands.
Lynne sighed and gave Garrett a loving smile. If there was anything that Lynne loved most about Garrett, it was his kindness. Lynne assumed it was because his parents had raised him so well.
"Alright Garrett, I'll be on my best behavior around Yuriko for Tim. Do you think he'll be okay? I hate leaving him with our parents so soon after he came into our arms." Lynne asked Garrett with a little worry in her voice.
"He'll be okay, we know our parents, he'll be okay." Garrett said giving Lynne a hug as she shed a tear.
"She didn't deserve what happened to her." Lynne said softly.
"I know, I know..." Was all Garrett could say as he held Lynne in his arms as Tom watched. Although his breakup with Lynne was rough, he did appreciate that Garrett had a kind soul for Lynne to turn to. Now they just needed to wait for Yuriko to get back so they could begin their investigation.
