Jenny watched as the couple walked arm in arm away from the counter. She hopped she'd be as happy as them. It had taken every cent, but she was able to afford the ticket here. She's run into problems back home, but she wasn't planning to...
"Yes Miss? Anything I can help with?" Jenny blinked as she realized the attendant at the information booth was smiling at her. She took off her small napsack and walked over to ask the question she'd been dying to.
"I want to live in Toonworld."
The smile on the attendant's face slipped for a second. "I'm sorry Miss, but only Toons can live in Toonworld. Normal humans like yourselves can only visit for a while."
Jenny's expression was one of pleading. "Please, there is nothing for me, can't you make an exception just this once??" The woman was unable to meet her eyes. "I'm sorry Miss, I don't make the rules, I just try to help visitors."
Jenny eyes began to fill with tears, which prompted the attendant to continue to avoid eye contact. "There there, just try to enjoy what time you have here. And while it's not a rule, please don't litter Miss."
Jenny wiped the tears from her eyes and looked down bemused at where the attended was pointing, seeing a white card with "Follow Me" in bold red text on the ground. "Um... sorry about that." Reaching down as she picked up the card, the text shifted into an arrow that pointed away from the information counter.
"Uh... Thanks anyway, I guess." Jenny grabbed her small backpack and walked away. The card twitched and shifted under her fingers, and Jenny realized it was a Toon, the arrow shifting and curving to point her on. Jenny walked on and barely noticed that the building got less pristine. The card pointed off the main street down a back alley.
Jenny began to get concerned as the card pointed her down a maze of dank alleys, their Toon nature a far cry from a real ones, but still scary. She stopped dead when she saw a large blinking neon sign proclaiming "Pet Shop - Not Secret Mad Scientist Lair" above a simple doorway. Taking a breath, she entered.
The "pet shop" contained the a strange mixture of items, but seemingly no pets. Parts of it looked like some strange costume and prop shop, but then there were a number of what looked like slanted drawing desks. Towards the back was a vat of what looked like bubbling tar, around which were large 40 gallon drums marked with the names of various colors.
Hovering open this vat, occasionally stiring it and cackling insanely was a man wearing a white lab coat, bald except for two white shocks of hair above his ears, the very stereotype of a mad scientist. He was humanoid, but the oversize nature of his head clearly marked him as a Toon. With a huge grin he looked up at Jenny, revealing his left eye was three times as large as his right.
"Ah! Someone has entered my humble store, but does the pretty young human girl want what the card has led her too?"
