Steve comes across a community center in the middle of the woods

added by Krentol 3 days ago O

Of course! Steve had almost forgotten, but towards the edge of the forest there was a small community center that would host themed nights. Steve actually remembered seeing a flyer for tonight – it was a men’s themed night where people would get together to play different war and roleplaying games. Steve must have been able to target someone who was just barely inside the front door.

Looking at the clock, Steve saw that it was 6:02pm. Steve had actually gone to a few of these about two months back. They closed the doors at 6, which was something they were very strict about, and the games went until 10. That meant that anyone who was going to be there already was.

~Nobody will know~

The community center wasn’t visible from the road and the front door was locked. The building was so isolated that there wasn’t any cell service there. Steve could… No!

Why were these thoughts just coming into his mind?

*Nobody will know*

Steve felt a presence fill the car. Looking at the app, he almost expected the target selection screen to have been replaced by a sneering demon, only to see that it looked the exact same as it always had. Were these really his thoughts? Or was the miasma that was suffocating his mind a manifestation of some otherworldly intelligence that powered the app?

Steve pulled back on the road and began driving towards his apartment. He could see the turnoff for the community center just ahead. All he had to do was to ignore the presence and keep driving past it.

75 feet. “Come on Steve, keep it together.”

50 feet. “Just keep your foot on the gas.”

25 feet. “You’ll just drive right past it.”

10 feet. ~Don’t you want to be an anthro~

Fuck! Steve put his foot on the brakes and turned onto the side road. He then followed the road as it curved to right, taking him behind a line and trees that blocked the main road. Pulling into a spot right in front of the building, Steve took a good look at it.

As to the building itself, there was nothing special about it. It was a moderately sized square shaped building that looked to have been built in the late 90s. The front of the building was a gigantic wall of plate glass that extended from the building’s floor to its ceiling. That glass façade revealed the entire interior of the building, which consisted of a single large room that was, at the moment, filled with a dozen or so sweaty nerds sitting around two tables.

The players all turned to watch Steve’s car as it drove up and one of them walked over to the glass door, making an X symbol with his arms as if to say, “you’re too late, door’s locked!” Little did the man know, but Steve was right on time.

Steve noticed his headlights reflecting in the building’s glass wall and turned them off while he kept the engine running. Looking at his phone, he confirmed what he had remembered the last time he’d come here – there was no cell phone service. That meant that he had an entire room of targets, none of whom could leave or call out to tell anyone else what was going on.

~It’s perfect~
