Chronivac Version 4.0

Jack tries to mess around with Owen and Aimee

added by Hinner 3 days ago BM TG

"You really went through all that just for this one disk? How bad do you need this money?" Jack asked absentmindedly as he started his computer, after Damon explained how he managed to find the disk after several days. Damon just brushed the question aside. "You tell me. How much money do you think this is even worth? Few hundred dollars?"

"It all depends if this Owen guy didn't fuck the disk up while he had it." Both guys were betting on this device being some fancy way to stream cable TV into a computer. Jack plugged the disk in his burner PC to check the integrity of whatever software this Chronivac was. After checking for viruses and file corruption, and having found neither, he booted the program up and waited for the installation process to finish.

The remote lit up as the Chronivac's interface finished loading and the two friends were left staring at an unfamiliar UI. Two profiles were already present, one Paul and one Felicity, although the avatars that accompanied them looked to be the opposite sex of what their names implied they'd be. "Is this some sort of game? Like, a character creator?" Damon pondered as Jack started clicking through the 'Paul' profile.

While accessing the profile Jack found an edit history, and that, in fact, the first version of this character did look more like a Paul than the second one, and that the female version apparently had an alias: Aimee. He also found that he could pretty much edit everything about this character, fiddling with the sliders into very extreme and silly proportions. However, when he tried applying the changes he made to this stranger's profiles an error message popped up. "Error! Individual outside Chronivac's range!" Jack read out loud.

Jack and Damon were very taken aback by the message. First they thought it might mean the original save files in Owen's computer were out of range, so they tried booting the Chronivac in the stolen laptop. Yet, when they tried saving over Paul's profile again, the same message appeared. Fiddling with the program they also explored 'Felicity' and found out that that one also had a genderbent first version, and that the male version was called 'Owen'.

"Maybe it is some sort of security thing? Maybe its tied to their wi-fi or something? If that's the case, it's weird the program would even let us access these profiles, but it might trace this back to them, so there is only one thing to do." Jack said, selecting both profiles and clicking 'Delete'.

This time another pop up showed up. 'Reverse all changes made to the profiles? (Warning, all data stored will be lost permanently.) Yes. / No.'

"Why would that even matter? You're deleting them anyway!" Damon said, there was something very weird about this program.

Jack shrugged, thinking that whatever he clicked here wouldn't matter anyway, and he needed to delete these to make sure the program wouldn't be traced back to this couple.

Wanting to get this over with, Jack clicked his answer, and then went about figuring out a way to make a new profile, so he could see what this program was even about.
