Mike came home from work. Since his wife had left him, he had to give his two sons the chores of cooking and cleaning which they didn't do nearly as well as she had. There was a laundry basket sitting in Mike's chair and no one had done anything to prepare supper.
"Greg, Jeff, get out here."
Jeff came out of his room. "Greg's not home."
Mike felt defeated. He moved the laundry basket out of his chair and sat down. "I'm tired of fighting over this. One of you has to move out."
"Dad, I'm only sixteen. Make Greg move out."
"He's only seventeen. Legally either of you could move out and be independent."
"But how can I move out? How could I afford rent?"
"Greg would ask the same questions but I do have an opportunity you might be interested in. At work, we have been developing nanotechnology and we are at the point of human testing. We need a volunteer to test the nanites on and whoever volunteers would get free room and board plus wages. Whichever of you volunteers would quickly make more money than you could possibly make doing any other low level job."
"Alright, I'm in. I'll jump at this chance before Greg even hears about it."
"Okay, come with me to work tomorrow and we'll get you signed in."

Mike took Jeff to work. After signing some papers including permission for the lab to acquire Jeff's medical records, Jeff was introduced to the staff. Although only twenty scientists would be directly involved in the experiments, there were hundreds of people that would be passing through either cleaning, doing maintenance or involved in some other medical activity since the lab was located in the west wing of a hospital. Then they gave Jeff a shot.
"So now that I have the medicine," Jeff asked, "we just wait to see the results, right?"
"Not exactly. We can now control the nanites with this computer and it is connected to satellites so we can send commands to the nanites no matter where you are. We're going to use the nanites to transform you."
