Walking along the shore enjoying the sunshine even if in a really bad mood walked a figure about the same age as the merman Alex whom was currently just beginning his siren song off shore. Her red hair was pulled back into a ponytail and multiple freckles covered her face, a clear daughter of Ireland if there ever was one. Her pail skin was covered with sunscreen to help protect it since she knew she burned easily.
She looked around the beach frowning a bit, she was unlucky with love and as she looked at all the happy couples wishing she had what they had. Her boyfriend had dumped her a couple of weeks ago and so she was here alone...once again.
Her ex had complained she wasn’t his type anymore; in truth she worried she wasn’t beautiful enough and no one would love a girl like her. She had a lot of freckles, was lacking in the chest department and was overall a very shy girl. She was more at home reading a book or watching the sunrise or set than going to parties or getting drunk.
“Why can’t I find a good man anywhere?” inquired the woman as she let out a resigned sigh, as she sat on a small rock looking out to sea. She looked down at herself, she was skinny and overall flat chested and not even comfortable enough in herself to wear a bikini like almost everyone else her age. Instead, a simple one-piece swimsuit hugged her body.
“Am I really not worthy of….” She started to say to herself when suddenly she stopped. She heard this beautiful song coming from the water. The song was unlike anything she had ever heard before as a smile graced her face.
She instantly got up, her bare feet sinking into the sand as headed out to sea. No one paid her any real mind; she was one among hundreds if not thousands on the beach today and the life guards on duty where more interested in talking to their friends/flirting or simply looking at their phones.
She swam out into the water, the song filling her head with a wonderful welcoming feeling, maybe even love she thought. She swam out, 100 yards or so past most of the people but there where still others nearby and some even greater distance ahead.
She raised an eyebrow in confusion, the song was coming from below, how was that even possible. She dove down and after a couple of feet she reached the sandy bottom, the song was coming from a couple feet ahead, a figure “standing” in a slightly glowing circle. Whoever it was he wasn’t standing, hard to do so considering he didn’t have any legs.
Before her, was a rather handsome merman with a rather breathtaking beautiful tail made of different shades of blue from dark navy to neon blue. His hair was an impossible shade of blonde to the point she thought it more in line with some of the anime she liked to watch.
She swam towards him, entering the circle as he stopped singing and looked at him. Their eyes locked on each other's his impossible blue to her greens. A shiver ran down her back and she actually felt like her knees would have given out on her.
“Hello.” He said in a welcoming tone with a playful smile. “I am Alexious, or Alex who are you?”
“I…” started the women before she stopped confused, she could speak and breath under water.
“Part of the spell, you will be fine down here.” Said Alex with a playful smile and a chuckle. “So who are you?”
“Kimberly…Kim for short.” Answered Kim as she looked around. “I can’t believe this is real, merfolk are real?”
“Yes, you heard my song….” Answered Alex with a slightly nerves laugh. “See that is what we call a siren song ceremony, and it is suppose to call our love from the land to the sea.”
“What?” asked Kim confused before looking around, there was no one else but why would someone like Alex want someone like her. He was way out of her league but it was only the two of them. “But I am not a mermaid?”
“Not yet.” Answered Alex “Do you want to come to the sea?”
