It occurred to Jennifer she could possibly work her way out of the game with unexpected help from Abby and her friends. She snuck back to her room while the party got ready to roll. She fished her phone out of her pants pocket and dialled up her sister. There was a faint buzzing from downstairs in the kitchen. It went silent, and Jennifer heard the voicemail message play. She rang it again, hoping Abby would take notice.
Finally, Jennifer heard her sister rise and say, "Shit, probably mom or Jen. Give me a minute." There were footsteps from the hardwood of the living room to the ceramic kitchen tiles. Jennifer heard a click on the end of the line. "Hello?" asked Abby.
"Abby! Okay, thank god you picked up!" Jennifer spoke with relief.
"Whoa, hey, sis. What's going on?"
"Listen, there is no time; you need to come upstairs and help me."
"Wait, you're home? How have I not seen you?" questioned Abby.
'Shit, can't tell her that.' "I was outside, came up through my window."
"Why?"
Jennifer slapped her palm to her forehead, "Because I wanted to, who cares! Look, I really need you right now to stop those dice from rolling and come up here."
"Oh, and you're spying on our game? What the hell has you so spooked?" Abby was visibly appalled at her older sister's skittish actions.
"Please?" asked Jennifer politely.
"... Fine. But first, we are rolling. You can hold out with whatever it is you are doing." Abby abruptly hung up, leaving Jennifer agog at her blank phone screen.
"Oh no, she didn't..." Jennifer's eyes were sore from surprise, but they still went wide at what was about to happen. She scrambled for her door with fear of what she may become with three rolls.
