Over the following two weeks, the search for Dan continues. His parents and sister are questioned, as are Dan's friends and girlfriends, but no one has any idea where he is, and why would they? Only Kat knows what she did to her brother, and she has no intention of telling anyone. Eventually the search is called off, and a memorial service is held the following week. Janet and Mike are very upset, as is Kat, but they have each other to lean on, so they manage to pull through.
When she was next alone, Kat gave a slight sigh of relief. She had hated every minute she spent with her parents in mourning over the "lost" Dan, as if he was actually dead, which he wasn't... at least not yet. But now she was alone, so she could finally get back to work and finish the process of turning her brother into a genie, and then make any wish she would ever want.
The next day was the first time Kat was in her house alone.
After her parents left to do some shopping, she raced to her room to finish her plan 3 weeks in the making.
Kat confidently opened the door only to be met with a blinding light. She quickly looked away before casting a enchantment on herself to see better. Kat looked back into the cupboard and saw two things which meant that she had succeeded. The first is the talisman, which was spinning so fast that it was distorting the air around it. The second was the jar containing Dan's soul. It was moving around so fast that she couldn't see it move. Kat had to squint even though she had cast an enchantment to allow her to see better. She reached out and grabbed the jar which was hot to the touch, and nearly yanked her hand away. Instead, she quickly closed the cabinet door and turned to her spellbook to find a spell to cool down the jar.
Kat placed the cooled jar on the desk in her room, with glee in her eyes. However, when she saw how large the glowing orb was, she realised that he was not in the same state as before. The soul still appeared to be a small ball of light, but instead of being the size of a pea, it was the size of an apple.
Dan, now able to see more than a dark room asked Kat "How long have I been in there?"
"Let me catch you up on the last 3 weeks. You were missing for 2 weeks before the search was called off and you were 'officially' buried last week."
Dan interjected, "3 WEEKS! it's felt longer than that!"
Kat ignored his outburst, "All questions will be asked later. Now mom and dad are pretty upset, but they'll be okay eventually. Now it's just me and them. Now you can ask any questions." Kat laughed wickedly.
"How old am I?" Dan asked pleadingly.
Kat was about to answer when she looked at the amulet. She cast some spells on it to see the time progression and was surprised at the figure. "Oh, that's interesting. That just gets better and better." Kat said.
"What? How long have I been in here?"
Kat laughed at him, "Not long. It seems that my magic combined with your own powers, you've fermented more powerfully. For me 3 weeks have passed while for you 502,500 years have passed."
Dan was speechless. He had thought he was gone for a long time, but not 500,000 years.
Kat then placed the jar on the ground in a chalk circle. Dan asked, "What are you doing?"
"The final stage of your transformation. Soon you will be the most powerful genie ever. No one will be able to match you in strength or power. You will serve me and grant my every wish until I grow bored with you."
She then began to chant in a foreign tongue, holding the amulet and circling around the jar. Dan tried to move but he was stuck inside the jar. Kat continued chanting as Dan's soul began to flow out of the jar into the amulet. As the last of his soul left the jar, Dan vanished from sight. Kat held the amulet and grinned evilly. "Finally, he's all mine! No more little brother. I am the mistress of the genie. Now I can have everything I've always wanted. This is the best birthday gift ever!"
Kat placed the amulet around her neck and smiled, "Time for a test run." She said. "Genie, come forth!"
Suddenly with a flash, Dan appeared in front of her, looking exactly the same as he did before disappearing.
