You look at Penny one more time and roll your pen with your thumb over your index finger until you write the sentence, ‘Penny Powell is a worst-case animal fucker.’ You let out a small puff of air through your nose and put your hand over your mouth to cover your laughter. You can’t believe you wrote such a change in the notebook.
You lift and turn your head towards Penny and notice that nothing has changed about her. Penny looks exactly the same girl as a moment ago. You look at the text on the notebook again and your gaze switches wildly between Penny and the text. To your chagrin, you realize that either the book doesn’t have enough power for such a visible change or… Penny really is an animal fucker. Your lower lip slowly opens as you think about it more closely. Did you just go and write a fact in a book that was already true. You try again to write ‘Penny Powell is a ruthless dog fucker who secretly fucks her own pet dog.’
Once again you expect something to happen. But no. No change. Nothing happens to Penny no matter how you write it. You consider writing a third sentence but the school bell stops your train of thought. You decide that perhaps it would be better to investigate the matter further and ask Penny directly how things are. Or maybe not. You still want to fuck Penny but at the same time you feel like you would like to visit her to see if Penny is letting her dog dominate her sex life.
So your only option is to write, ‘You, the owner of the TF-notebook, and Penny Powell are on good terms with each other.’ After writing this you feel a strange pressure in your neck and back. As if the whole school is pressing down on you. Maybe it’s just your imagination when you realize that no student is acting differently at all. You can just ‘feel’ that something happened to your social status at the school or maybe it’s the funky scent that you noticed just now. It’s very similar scent what Penny has. Anyway, you catch Penny in the hallway and boldly ask her if you could come visit her after school.
“Oh, like today, right?” Penny asks you.
You can see from her expression that your question is quite strange and as if you shouldn’t have asked her that. However, you can’t say for sure if the question itself was strange or if you’ve ever asked it so directly. In any case, you answer Penny about wanting to come visit and maybe exchange few words. Penny rubs her unkempt and dirty black hair with her thumb and forefinger until she approaches you and gives you a kiss on the cheek.
“You’re always welcome to visit me. See you after school. Bye.” Penny smiles and you can sense the faint smell of tobacco on your cheek.
You feel that this didn’t go as you imagined. Was Penny originally too simple a target for an easy fuck or has this girl just gone crazy. You think about it to yourself as you go to sit on a nearby bench and hear a message pop-up noise coming from your phone. It’s from Penny. It seems that knowing her also means that you’ve exchanged phone numbers. She explains to you that her mom is promising to pick you both up from the school with Sparky.
‘Who the fuck is Sparky?’ You think to yourself as you read the message.
Penny explains how she and her mom need to go to the supermarket to get their groceries for the month and how her mom is happy that you’re coming to help them carry the groceries.
‘No, what the fuck? Penny makes these things up all on her own.’ You think to yourself and text Penny that you’re ready to help. ‘Huh? I didn’t write that.’
You notice that your fingers are responding to Penny’s slurs as if you’ve been in a relationship with each other for a long time. Before you press enter, you pull your fingers away from the phone’s keyboard and experience a strange feeling as if your body is just possessed by someone else.
You quickly scratch out the fourth sentence in the book, which reads, ‘The current owner of the notebook is free to make their own decisions and not be controlled by anyone else.’
You feel your hand returning back in to your control, but you decide to stick with your current plan for Penny. It would be really strange if you immediately wrote that you wouldn’t be willing to help. Carrying a couple of shopping bags shouldn’t be that difficult. You close the notebook and put it in your backpack before heading to another class where the others are already waiting for the start of their second period.
