As Lisa and Ty entered the house, they found Mark watching TV, and June reading a magazine. Mark hit "mute", and June putnthe magazine down.
"I'm going to walk Lisa home now," Ty said.
"No," Mark said, "June and I will drive you. Right June?"
"Of course," said June.
"Thank you," Lisa said. The four of them got into Mark's car, and Lisa gave him the directions to her house, which was not far.
As they pulled up to the house, Lisa said, "Thank you all for a lovely evening. If you don't mind, I'd like Ty to come inside for just a moment."
"Certainly. That's fine," said Mark.
June looked at Ty. "No hurry, take your time," she said, and though she was perfectly polite, Ty knew that she meant exactly the opposite. That was fine, though.
Lisa led Ty into the house. Her parents must have been elsewhere, so she led him up the stairs and into her room, shutting the door quietly behind him. Although Ty hadn't actually seen any teen-age girls' bedrooms, nothing about it surprised him.
"Was there anything in particular you wanted to see," Lisa asked.
"You," Ty said with a smile, "but unfortunately there's not ttime. I'm going to try something unusual with my power," he warned her, "so don't freak out. If this works, you'll see me disappear for about ten seconds."
The idea startled her, but she said, "OK. You're not going to do anything dangerous, are you?"
"How would I even know? My power didn't come with instructions or a help file. Just stay calm, and everything should be fine," he reassured her.
She saw him concentrate, and just as he'd predicted, he suddenly disappeared. Even with the warning, she couldn't help worrying about him. After about ten econds, which seemed like an eternity, he reappeared, looking no different than when he'd disappeared. She asked, "What did you do? I was very worried!"
"Nothing to worry about!" he said. "This time we'll do it together." He stretched his arms out toward her. "Let's hug."
Lisa wrapped her arms around Ty, and they held each other tightly. "Ready?" he asked. She nodded, and then he concentrated.
Suddenly they were in a different place. He relaxed his arms a bit, but did not let go of her. "Are you OK?"
"Fine, just a bit startled." They parted, and she looked around. "Ty! This is your bedroom!"
"I noticed," Ty said dryly. ""Well, we'd better go back. My parents are waiting in the car. 'Drizzle, drazzle, druzzle, rrome, time for this one to come home.'"
They hugged again. "This is...", she started. The universe shifted. "amazing!"
"I know, right?" Ty said. "I had no idea whether I'd be able to do that, but I'm pleased that it worked."
"'Pleased'?" Lisa said, "That doesn't even _begin_ to describe it!"
"Glad you like it," he said. They kissed briefly, "I'd better go."
"Right," she said, reluctantly letting go. She led him back to the front door.
"Bye. For now..." Ty said. "Love you!"
"Love you too!" she replied, and Ty walked back to the car, and got in.
"Thanks for driving us over," Ty told his parents, "and being patient while I ment inside. Thank you for making this evening wonderful for Lisa and me."
"You're welcome," Mark and June said in unison, and Mark started driving home.
Ty thought to himself, "I could really learn to like having a family this nice. I hope it's real. I told them I thought we should all be a little nicer to each other, in order to make all of our lives better. I hope that it works, and that it becomes natural for us to treat each other with kindness and respect."
He started trying to think of nice things he could do for Mark and June. And for Dustin.
