When Lisa and Ty got downstairs, they saw June greeting Mark in the living room. "Hi, June," Lisa said, as she and Ty sat down on the sofa. Ty put his arm around Lisa, unsure where the boundaries on "excessive display of affection" might be, but neither Mark nor June so much as raised an eyebrow.
"How was your book club?" Ty asked.
"Hi, Lisa," June replied, then turning toward Ty, "Book club was great. We talked about the latest Johm Grisham legal thriller. How are you kids?"
Before Lisa and Ty could say anything, Mark spoke up. "I'm really impressed with their diligence. They spent some time on their school work, when I'm sure there were any number of things they would rather have been doing."
Lisa and Ty both blushed a bit. "Yes, we did do some homework, but that didn't take all afternoon," Lisa said.
"I'm going to start preparing dinner," June said, and walked into the kitchen.
"Lisa," Ty said, "if you don't mind, I'll see whether I can help Mom with anything." He got up and followed her.
"I'll help too," Lisa said, but Mark immediately said, "Thank you, but you're our guest. You're not allowed to do any of the work."
In the kitchen, Ty asked, "Is there anything I can help with?"
June hugged Ty, and kissed him on the cheek. "No thank you, dear. I can manage. I'll have Mark set the table. You should stay with Lisa."
"OK, thanks!" said Ty. "Remember, if you need anything, I'm glad to help." He started to head back to the living room, but turned back to June. "There is one thing I'd like to ask you and Dad."
"Sure," June said. Louder, she said, "Mark, could you come in here for a moment, please?"
In the living room, Mark said loudly, "I'll be right there," and in a softer voice, told Lisa, "Please pardon me for leaving you alone here. I expect Ty will be back out soon."
"Oh, that's perfectly fine," Lisa said. "Go on ahead," and Mark went to the kitchen.
"Honey, would you please set the table," June asked Mark, "but first, Ty has a question for us. Go ahead, Ty."
"Mom, Dad, I hope you don't mind me asking this. I haven't actually even asked Lisa if she wants to do this. But if she wants to, and her parents give her permission, may she stay overnight?"
Mark and June were a little surprised by this, and looked at each other, but neither immediately vetoed the idea. June turned back to Ty, and said, "Your father and I will have to discuss this. We will let you know."
"Thank you," said Ty. "I'd better go keep her company." He returned to the living room, and sat down with Lisa and put his arm around her again. Since his parents couldn't see them from the kitchen, he sneaked a squeeze of one of her breasts. She kissed Kim, then whispered, "Naughty, naughty! Save it for the bedroom."
